The price of £54.95 or whatever is the maximum price a garage can charge. Many people take this to be the actual price that an MOT is supposed to be - Where as it takes around 20-30 minutes and even at £30, garages still make a profit on this.

A great idea (along with mandatory insurance perhaps) however a lack of police resources would not make it feasible.
In addition Bicycling is/was (??) a past time for many including children, so should children have to be insured?

Considering that I have legal access to the path to exit my drive (hence the dropped down curb) and in addition a bicyclist should be using a cycle lane if provided. I checked down past the fence and then waited for around 10 seconds to allow any cyclists or people who were in the blind spot (10m long estimate) to emerge and this guy didn't.
When there's a cycle path on a wide road I have no compassion.
Nothing to do with failure to indicate or a lack of lights in the night.

Every time someone posts up anything about bad cyclists someone lycra-wearing do-gooder comes on saying "OH MY GOD CARS ARE HORRIBLE".

I was out with my friend the other night and at the roundabout at the top of the link, near Newbury Retail Park, I saw 2 bicycles behaving STUPIDLY.
Firstly was an old man.
It was around 8:30pm so dark. Had NO LIGHTS on his bicycle and no reflectors neither. He rode around the roundabout from Newbury College Side and straight on (as if going to the retail park) WITHOUT ANY SIGNALLING WHATSOEVER.
An Audi driver going towards that Girls school nearly crashed into this old guy because well, it's unexpected and you couldn't see them!!
And then the same bicyclist veered across the oncoming lane, infront of a car (causing it to brake pretty hard judging from the pitch) to get onto the path.

At the next roundabout (where you either go into McDonalds or towards Tesco) another guy on a bicycle went THE WRONG WAY around the roundabout to ride across the road onto the path infront of oncomming traffic.

And the other night I nearly smashed into a bicycle. I was edging out of my drive (which backs onto a main road, it has a fence so I can't see the path admittedly until 10 meters away). I'm patient here and waited for a sec incase there was something in the 10m blind spot. Around 10 seconds after this, I SLOWLY edged out forwards (as I reverse in, in accordance with the highway code) and a maniac on a bicycle came flying down the path. (A small brown chap). Nearly into the side of my car. Now sorry but I understand sometimes you'd want to cycle on the path (hambridge road etc) but the main road in question actually has a cycle lane on the road and is perfectly wide enough for bicycles and cars to happily co-exist... ................................................................................

To a point there.
They can see what sort of websites you've been on but not necessarily what you actually do.
Especially if a webpage has an active applet within in.

They do not store and are unable to read IMs, emails neither can they listen into Skype or similar VoIP calls from your desktop unless they are patched into your local network. Emails - most of it on say Gmail you log onto Googles Server which your ISP can't see. they can't tell your password or anything. They could find your email address but not actually get into it. Unless Google (in this example) gives them your emails.

I think the issue is the internet represents freedom to so many people, freedom of speech (which is slowly being taken away of course) and a few other things, and despite the fact that record sales would be no different there is the big push in terms of piracy which is always a reason behind anything relating to "online monitoring".

It's becoming quite the big brother nation. More so than it is now.

Well that's exactly what people in the services need to do.
Too often things are littered with health and safety legislation.

Especially so for regular people. I've heard that people who have fallen/been in an accident have sued passers-by for trying to help (especially if they get further injuries from incorrect treatment afterwards).

Some people don't salt their own pavements for that exact reason.. because well they didn't want to get sued or bucked over for money (it does happen) -

I can't believe some people and the fact they have the nerve to do this. That damage is pretty intensive and from the pictures they look like really deep key marks, especially on the bonnet!

Well for front and rear discs and pads on something boring like a Vauxhall Zafira would probably only be something like.. £70 for discs and pads at the front, £50 for the back, maybe 2, to 3 hours labour depending on the garage? Especially if you buy cheap tack from Ebay.

So let's say £150 for parts.
And reasonably around £80-120 for labour, brake fluid etc. That's normal garage rates.

I agree. I do that too but normally on traffic lights I "know" the sequence of, just around here.

I can get new uprated discs and pads for around £150. (R32 so 345mm discs at the front)
£300 maybe front and rear but the rears would last 3 or even 4 times that of the front! On a big car.. too..

Basically you are complaining that you had to re-tune, complaining that you lost your favorites (diddums) and complaining about the quality and content is not really comparable to analog TV. Well, the QUALITY (as in visual and audio) is always better. That is just a fact of the transmission medium. It's subject to far less losses. Quality of the programmes themselves... well, as I hardly watch TV (and I mean literally maybe 1 or 2 shows a week such as Watchdog and Russell Howards Good News) I wouldn't know but I have many other things to do rather than watch TV.

3) Not many people post on here because;
3.a) It's a relatively un-advertised forum catering for a small town.
3.B.) The small town in question whose population reads the Newbury Weekly News Publication are normally of a more mature age (average age in late 40's wouldn't surprise me).
3.ci) A majority of those in their mature ages are not of the mindset to participate in web forums
3.cii) A minority of those in their mature ages don't even understand how to use a computer properly let alone participate in web forums.
3.ciii) Some of those who are of a mindset to post are not able to fit into the forums "style" which is often aggressive debating styles.
3.d) Those who are young and attempt to sign up often are met with hostility due to their difference of opinion due to the differencing generations so many don't bother.
3.e) Certain fellows are found to be lying about their personal lifes and children they don't have but do have but didn't have.
3.f) For the amount of people in the town vs the type of forum (angry old mens debating area) I think the 20 or 25 regular sort of posters we have are pretty good.
