That's only £4 each.

Tightwads.

Yes, only another 62500 similar events to reach their target. How they couldn't raise a grand is laughable.

Surely this is a wind up?!?!

Did these people have to pay for their meal and champagne? or did it come out of expenses? They should be ashamed of themselves.

Let's hope there's a nought or two missing from the news report. 160 sovs is the sort of amount you'd expect a jumble sale at Tiddley Under Fenton to raise for repainting the loos in the village hall.

Glad I'm not alone in thinking this.

Swings and Smiles, like many other charities, is a very worthy cause. I know of events both socially and where I work taking place, for this and other causes, where "normal" folk such as I have made these "VIPs" fundraising efforts seem laughable and whilst "every little helps" I'd have thought they could have dug a little deeper, much deeper in fact.

Sainsbury's have raised more money for them than this(a good few thousand). Swings & Smiles is the Newbury Sainsbury's store charity of the year.

I trust everyone moaning about this will be contributing towards the charity in question.

I have already contributed to three charities in the past five days and am a trustee of another, before I do so - your track record, please?

The line "I do a lot for charity but I don't like to talk about it" springs to mind. biggrin.gif

Have you contributed to the charity in question?

Not yet - have you then?

and yes, I don't like to talk about my work for charity but, since you don't know who I am, I think I can allow myself to mention it. laugh.gif

Have you? Why is it relevant? The fact is 40 people held a fundraiser raised a very small amount each. It is more than they started with granted but is it worth a write up? Should the restaurant really be publicising to be honest I'm sure the VIP's have done their fair share of fundraising between them, it just seems wrong to harp on about £4, although it is the Newbury Weekly News, not the dignitries themselves who published the story.

Unless the NWN story is in error, it is an embarrassing amount. Whether I will be contributing to the charity is a different matter. If I was invited to a charity bash, I would contribute more than £4.00. Bear in mind this is an average, meaning some would have contributed less.

Spot on Strafin.

User23 why do you always have to be so "controversial"? To answer your question I refer you to my earlier post.

Being a VIP doesn't necessarily mean you are rich. You could just have worked really hard for the charity or the restaurant and been invited along.
