I see our local lets-see-what-we-can-do-to-justify-an-existence who have cash burning a hole in their pockets, have proposed more junk for the park. Not only do they contrive to wreck the football pitch, stick in a huge albeit popular skate park, neglect a large redundant stagnant pond, crop the corner off for a new junction and preside over the eternal new pavilion, they want to stick in a girt water amusement!!!

Why can't the park just be a bloody patch of grass? Why can we not just leave alone!

'Green lung', what green lung. Austerity, what austerity?

Warning: some of the hyperbole in this post was purely intentional.

Quite agree, thought I was a minority of one. Nonetheless, like it or not, what is happening is what the public want. After all, if they didn't they'd have told their Councillors. After all, we do want a clean town and sweeping concrete is a quick simple task. All those nice new machines and kids play equipment helps keep them nice n fit; burns off the flab a treat. We are getting what we voted for.

A water amusement that is good for 8 weeks a year!

It's bloody litter and our councillors are sponsoring it!

Tory, Lib Dem. All the same and shame on them and shame on the careless public too.

Of course it could just be me! tongue.gif

Of course they could also get a fair wedge by selling it off to keep costs down? That's if anyone has £1.50 going spare.........yes I know extra £0.50 for inflation and because it is a green space! rolleyes.gif

Probably is rolleyes.gif

Have a look at the Facebook page; a good few are orgasmic! 'Isn't it wonderful, just what we need, the sort of thing they've had elsewhere for ages'....and then they complain about clone high street shops. I'm beginning to despair, not only does the Council have to feed our kids, it has to amuse them too.

And this is the electorate; oh well, local politics is beginning to make sense.

Nothing wrong in having something like this, but the sneaky way this seems to happen and its location. It is a carbuncle.

I believe this should be an easy access place in the middle of town that allows for a bit of gentle amusement or a bit of P&Q.

Like 'they' say, when it comes to green fields, they are not making any more.

It's that soddin' pavilion via the back door! Basterds.

AndyC, you should have stood; a first rate political response, real weather vane stuff! What happened to austerity?

Just being the awkward b***** shouting at the back!

It seems that cash strapped 'more cuts on the way' West Berkshire Council are paying for this. They've also admitted they don't know how much on going maintenance is going to cost!

Who else believed that NTC 'owned and operated' Victoria Park?

Why is WBC interfearing? This suggests they also feel that Newbury Town Council is a waste of time. This is democracy in action is it? Two expensive authorities managing exactly the same thing and not a fag paper difference between the two political parties.

You couldn't make it up.

Then £2,000,000.00 worth of paving to link it all up?
