I would imagine that few, if any, on here are interested, but just in case there are.

A piece of rail history on Friday night as the very last HST to call at Newbury departed at 21:48 for Plymouth.

42 years of what I would classify as excellent service from a BRITISH built train!!

Is that last Friday or this Friday?

My feelings are that the HST is a superior passenger experience.

Saddened to see that whilst most of the EU's economies are red lining ours is steadily improving. 🤣

Do you mean flatlining?

That was what the government warned would happen, but remain said it wouldn't. That's the point. If Leave had campaigned for no single market, no customs union and acceptance of a recession we wouldn't be having this debate.

I’m not arguing we should leave without a deal, I’m arguing that parliament sabotaged the negotiations by removing a bargaining tool.

The public didn’t vote for “no deal”. Find a single instance of a Leave campaigner that said we’d leave with no access to the single market or we’d remove frictionless trade. Find a single instance of a Leave leader saying we’d be worse off.

More people voted to leave than stay, so for parliament to remove one of the government’s main bargaining tools was an act of sabotage from an overwhelmingly remain organisation.

The treaty was renegotiated and the second referendum was 70:30. That’s democracy in action.

In the UK the promises have proven undeliverable. To honour the vote without going back to the people is unfemocratic and stupid. It panders to those threatening unrest.

I have recently felt that the biggest weapon we had was treacherously removed when they voted to take no deal off the table, that affectively kept us in some form of union.

Because it is a misnomer Andy.
We have peace which has been achieved so far with or without the camp.
Some may say it is because we had / have these weapons that peace, so far, remains.
We all want peace. If a camp had been set up in support of the weapons surely this could have been described as a "Peace Camp" also?
I know it is futile trying at this stage to rename a historical inaccuracy but just trying to make a point. smile.gif

P.S. PLEASE don't stoop to the level of newres and include personal silliness in your comments. Also an inaccuracy as I have given up wearing petticoats!!
Thanks. wink.gif

PROTEST CAMP WOMEN, PROTEST CAMP WOMEN> rolleyes.gif

The name of the camp(s) is a matter of record: Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp. The Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp was a camp full of people protesting about nuclear weapons. I don’t see why you are getting your petticoat in a twist? 😉

It is interesting because the Peace Camp women were not entirely appreciated by the locals, where as everyone seemed to have an American serviceman as a friend! Notwithstanding the brilliant air tattoos!

It's irrelevant unless you get the biggest causes of climate change on board. Sure.. chain yourself to the Chinese and US embassies but don't glue yourself to a train, which ironically is far kinder to the environment than cars.

Because of China et al. it seems to me to be an even bigger reason to invest in renewables.

Recently departed. Not sure of your ages, but It Ain't Half Hot Mum was a classic of my childhood. That & Citizen Smith (no surprises there) were my favourite sitcoms I think.

Difficult to beat Porridge for sitcoms.

Lost my only sibling over 20 years ago. I don’t think I have recovered properly from that. I still have both parents but I know it is now a matter of time; it doesn’t help when one of them insists on riding motorcycles. mellow.gif

According to Aunty Google, they are called Video Doorbells?

Used to be packed out most nights. Was the "in pub" amongst many at that time!
Called The White House in those days.
Live bands etc.

Yes, I agree there!

If you want asylum, why not go to the embassy or a border crossing point and officially ask for asylum. If you enter the country illegally, you are not an asylum seeker, you are a illegal alien.

To ask for asylum after you get caught is not an asylum seeker, your still a criminal.

“Britain received less than 4 per cent of all asylum claims made in the EU during last year.”

More than 230 people have attempted to cross the English Channel in small boats since November, according to a tally being kept by BBC News.

How many asylum seekers are there?

In 2017, there were 26,350 applications for asylum made in the UK.

This compares with 198,255 applications for asylum made in Germany, 126,550 in Italy and 91,070 in France over the same period.

In total in the UK, there were 21,290 decisions made with 31.8% gaining some form of protection.

Gammon is OK, but I see gammons on both sides of the debate. I feel for the sake of democracy we have to see it through.

Well they were wrong. However MPs can now ask us just to make sure we're sure. May's deal or remain. I'm content now to accept either, though I think it's better to remain. A hard Brexit with no deal is off the table.

I disagree, if we don’t brexit properly, then the EU sceptics will remain as a political cancer.

Can you explain to me your definition of someone who is not a refugee? Enlighten me...

QUOTE (newres @ Dec 30 2018, 07:31 AM) *
Someone who has not left home to escape war or political violence.

A refugee is someone who seeks shelter after fleeing a war torn country.

Therefore, someone who is not a refugee is someone who has not fleed a war torn country.

Were you meant to have asked: give me an example of a migrant who is not a refugee?
