Bearing in mind how obvious that milkshake attack was yesterday and given the bad press Farage was getting over his financial probity, I suspect it was staged.

He does look a bit stupid to say the least. No one would deliberately make themselves look a fool.

Farage gets assaulted, "I suspect it was staged".

M'lud, I rest my case.

Wouldn't want to be working at Burger King this Sunday.... it appears that thousands of people are going to be buying milkshakes... guess the police will be busy...

Much as I find the whole thing hilarious, and also deserved, I can't really condone it. It's not the right way to make a proper stand. The likes of Farage bring it on themselves mind, and what they do impacts the lives of real people in a very negative way, and it's no more than a taste of their own medicine. If it was a left wing politician being attacked I would be all pi55y about it so I have to apply the same outrage in these recent cases.

It's hard to apply the same outrage on behalf of Yaxley Lennon though. And note that in that case the "attacker" was being harrassed by Robinson.

Femi went to a Brexit party rally and set up outside goading people going to it. He was desperate for a reaction. It would be like Farage setting up outside a Lib Dem rally....🤣

Looks like he was just asking the same old question we all do of Brexiteers...

Can you justify Brexit or offer a real and tangeable benefit?
The answer is always just some abuse and you're a traitor for asking.

Once one sides idea of meaningful political discourse is assaulting an opposition candidate then they've already lost the argument as well as any moral high ground they might like to think they're standing on.

UKIP and Brexit are the only two parties in which it’s not necessary to declare who you are to donate. Did you see the abuse Femi suffered the other night as he made himself available to Brexit supporters? Farage wouldn’t get off his bus.

The article refers to the mill towns. They’ve long been a hot bed for the right. The BNP used to do well there. In general it’s Tory voters going over to Brexit.

Of course the Tory voters have defected. It's what happens when a weak PM fails to deliver what they were asked to do. It's a sea change. Benyon will be out at the next GE. My guess is the Lib Dems will win Newbury and the Brexit Party will be 2nd. Be interesting to see the result at the Peterborough bye election.

There won't be any CCTV as if it did exist it would have been a remainers paradise. That is a good point. Strafin is also a voice of reason but we are both a bit part-time in terms of responding to the arguments of the pro-Brexit forum members.

In terms of current events I am a bit disappointed that Amber Rudd will not be standing for the Conservative party leadership. The whole leadership race appears to be made up of increasingly right wing candidates ranging from those that I am ambivalent about because I don't know enough about them to those that I absolutely loathe and detest.

In conclusion, things are looking pretty bleak at the moment and the best possible outcome in the foreseeable future is that the government will have dithered so much again by the end of October that they will be forced to revoke Article 50 in order to avoid the ineveitable economic ruin that would almost certainly ensue in the event of a no deal Brexit.

Let's just say we had another vote (which I think is troubling) and leave win again. Would you still expect article 50 to be revoked? If so, why bother with elections.

If we had another referendum and the majority of voters still chose to leave then I would not expect article 50 to be revoked. This is because the outcome will have proved to be one that can be repeated rather than just a snapshot of opinion at a single point in time. If this were to happen then it would happen with the electorate having a proper understanding of the consequences of the outcome of the vote and it could no longer be dismissed as a fluke or as a vote where an educated decision was not possible due to a lack of information being made available at the time.

Ok, so if you had another referendum and the answer was stay, let's say 52 to 48. Would you expect that to be the end of the matter for say 40 years?

I think if Johnson or any no deal leader gets elected, they will lose a vote of confidence very quickly. At least one of those standing for leader has said he won’t see be in a BJ. cabinet. No deal would be disastrous and only rabid nationalists or the stupid would desire it.

People chose to based upon a great deal. What was promised can’t be delivered and that’s why we need another vote. The reason we haven’t left let’s not forget is because of leavers voting down the WA.

Ok, so if you had another referendum and the answer was stay, let's say 52 to 48. Would you expect that to be the end of the matter for say 40 years?

The way that I would run the referendum, you would need at least 60% of the votes cast in order for any change to the status quo to be made. This would apply to any future referendum, whether it be on Brexit or Scottish independence or any other matter. The emphasis should not be about proving why the current state of affairs is a good thing but rather why the alternative is better. This approach is commonly used in statistics in the area of hypothesis testing. So to answer your question, I would expect the outcome that you have described to be the end of the matter for 40 years, as it was after the previous referendum to join the Common Market.

So in summary, you want to remove any chance of remain losing again. Why not make it 80 percent? 😂😂

But do you not think that as they are a single issue party that they will have a ceiling in terms of appeal? They have probably reached it because when the GE comes, there will be some that return to the Tories as they shift to the right. I do think any that moved from Labour will stay with them as the most likely outcome will be that Labour will firm up a Remain/confirmatory vote position.

I fully expect the Tories to go for a no deal and Farage will then join them. That would mean a 40 percent share of the vote at a GE. The other parties would be screwed given our voting system.

I think you’ve got a thing for me. Newbury will be interesting though. I’d imagine Benyon will get a good chunk of his votes back in a GE but I doubt Brexit would get as many votes percentage wise so this could easily be a Lib Dem seat again. The greens did well too though and it would be a shame to see the “liberal” vote split like that here.

Just for the record I’m a floating voter.

I wasn't marching in London but I have always opposed wars against dictatorships in the Middle East. I have been very consistent on that. It NEVER ends well. The only exception to that was the first Iraq war when Sadaam invaded Kuwait. That was justifiable, to a degree.

Two points,
If the ref had gone remain would you still be saying that.

If it's ok to attempt to prosecute a brexiteer, presumably it's ok to prosecute any mp who misleads.

If I had a time machine I would go back and do whatever was necessary to stop the referendum in the first place. It's divided the nation and its brought both Tory and labour parties to the brink of destruction.

No, it was said that we would be in recession if we left the EU. Voting out and actually leaving the EU are two very different things, as we are certainly now aware. Since we haven't actually left the EU yet, the validity of these statements is yet to be evaluated and therefore no prosecutions could or should be made on that basis.

There's been so much talk about how the threat of brexit would cause businesses to relocate abroad, hasn't happened, people say "but we haven't left yet" to which I say "if your house catches fire you don't wait for it to burn to the ground before getting out do you". The economy is actually in a very good place at the moment.

Businesses are moving or planning to. But your analogy is incorrect, moving now is really just an insurance policy. The real damage will come after when we lose inward investment jobs. Obviously losing frictionless trade will mean more job losses.

I stand corrected, I see the decision by nissan to pull the plug on the X trail is totally due to brexit. Nothing of course to do with;

"In the first quarter of 2019, sales of the Nissan X-Trail SUV, once popular in Europe, fell by two thirds. The reason is the new WLTP standards.
In the first quarter of 2019, the Nissan X-Trail lost 67% in the European market compared to the Q1 2018. In the first TOP 10 mid-size SUVs, it took only in the 7th place. A couple of years ago it was the second.

New WLTP requirements for emissions level are the reason for the X-Trail sales drop, according to experts. The automaker had to withdraw some versions from the market due to them."

So, nothing to do with the fact the the xtrail only sold 24,000 units Europe wide last year? And nothing to do with the fact that in order for it to meet new standards would require complete new retooling, for a car whose sales are in free fall. No! It's brexit! Of course it is!

I honestly don't know what remoaners would do if we did stay. What could they blame for everything? Its also the only reason some of these #fbpe cult loons get up in the morning. They can't have jobs, some of these Twitter feeds contain a tweet every bloody 10 minutes..

They multi-task/function. Observe any member of the great unwashed and they seem incapable of conducting the simplest of tasks without the obligatory phone in one hand and coffee cup in the other. How they procreate is a mystery but one assumes they operate in the workplace with minium restriction. As one who still thinks a tweet is an ornithological reference I stand on the sidelines and observe with increasing incredulity. cool.gif

It was considered important enough to place it first in the article, so their premiere case is in fact a lie.

Companies relocate all the time, sometimes it's for cheaper rents, sometimes it's a more advantageous tax regime, cheaper labour, bigger government handouts, you name it. But rather than explain exactly why you're doing it is sometimes politically disadvantageous, so you say it's brexit. Easy.

Welly, Welly, Welly,

"EU banks and fund managers faced being stopped from trading dual-listed companies in the UK capital, should Britain leave the bloc without a deal in place, under a rule from Europe’s markets watchdog to “significantly reduce the scope” of trading obligations. But the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has now announced a U-turn on the plans after “taking into account the concerns expressed by stakeholders”. ESMA said it had identified 6,243 companies that investors registered in the EU would have to trade on European exchanges in the event of Britain leaving in a hard Brexit scenario. Of this group, 14 dual-listed stocks – including Vodafone, BP, Royal Dutch Shell, AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline and Coca-Cola European Partners – have their most active market in London."
The London Stock Exchange said the news was positive for investors and a “step forward in avoiding market disruption in a no-deal Brexit”.

What about all the banks and finance houses that have moved staff? British Steel is almost certainly a victim of lost contracts due to the Brexit uncertainty. You’d have to be pretty ignorant to not realise the jeopardy the automotive industry will be in if we exit the single market as well as agriculture. Patrick Minford has said this is a necessary cost.

But future inward investment losses would be huge too.

You are as deranged as the Anti Trump lot in the USA. I think you actually want a recession just so you can say "told you so"... your cup is half empty all the time. I like to keep mine half full. You must be a joy to work with....

You're thinking of tractor factories. Tractors to help the proletariat till the land. And once we have enough tractors we can build cars.. Cars that made this country Great.. cars that people want and can afford... the designs are ready...

No comrade, we can build 'tractors' but not cars, cars are for imperialist elites. Once we have enough tractors built in the Birmingham oblast we will build tanks! Tanks comrades! An army of steel to grind the imperial elite into the dust! The pasty whey faced imperialist scum will tremble before the steel will of party chairman Corbyn! Onwards! Not one step back!

But nothing to do with this then,

"John McDonnell interview: why capitalism is on borrowed time".

You see, banks and big businesses absolutely thrive under the threat of governments who threaten this, stockholders love it. 🤣

Mind you, if he was to throw more and drink less he wouldn't be such a fat loser. So there's that. I see people have raised some money for him, now he can afford a better suit for his next job interview, so there's that as well 😁
