Can anyone recommend any houses in Newbury with impressive Christmas lights? I'm looking to organise a Christmas Lights Run in a couple of weeks and want to come up with a route that takes us past some good ones. The "taxi" house near the Bury's Bank Road / Greenham Road junction is on the list, but the tour ends there at the moment ...

Ha ha, 'taxi house.' I know excately which one you mean! I always thought that Victori Road in Thatcham had some of the tackiest lights around. I know it's nice to make your home look christmassy, but some people really need to restrain themselves a little!

The best in the area are normally the ones a couple of miles past Bucklebury at Bradfield.

Thanks for the replies - I've heard Bradfield is good, but it's a bit of a trek to run there from Newbury. Are there any other good ones in Newbury normally? There's got to be a rocking Santa somewhere ...

Best bet for a tasteless display is usually greenham, or any council estate, take your pick.

Recommending what to avoid. The OP didn't say that would be a problem, so don't be pedantic.

Other than when it is dangerous, I don't see an issue and I find it amusing.

You think a few house lights are the main issue at Christmas? How damaging is Christmas as a whole to the planet? How damaging is economic growth to the planet? How damaging is yours and our pointless daily conversations ?

10/10 for mind reading.

You have deliberately misinterpreted my statement. I DID NOT say I think it is the main issue.
Besides, all those who have 'just a few' house lights are part of a huge team of power wasters.
Yes, christmas IS very damaging, and all because of stupid fairy tales originally designed to control the uneducated masses. You have an amazing skill of just adding anything to an argument that counters anyone elses submission. We can all come up with hypothosis to attempt to add weight to a point being made.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are trying to say.

The point I was making is that Christmas lights are not a big issue when taking everything else into account. As for 'skill of just adding anything to an argument that counters anyone elses submission'; is that not what discussion is all about? I just saw your comment as mean spirited; trying to throw a guilt grenade.

What is now Christmas time was a festival long before that which it is meant to represent today. Suggesting this is all because of fairy tales is daft in that regardless of the reason, we would have a winter festival anyway.

I often feel that people that disparage others based upon their social class / financial status have an insecurity about their own.
