laugh.gif Some hopes.
As far as I know this is what we are getting!
Read down under "Plans".
Mind you, this is Wikipedia!!
Note that the article says they are being built for services to Bristol and South Wales, not the West of England line that we are on.
Don't forget the wires are only going as far as Newbury so if they do come this way they will have to be dual power "hybrid".

Great train, pity nobody will be able to afford to travel on it. Journeys from Newbury are already extortionate - Newbury to London (60 miles) £21, Birmingham to London (120 miles) £6. angry.gif

How much to drive from Newbury to London?
In my car? Well I could probably do it on about £8-10 quid of fuel. Plus insurance, plus road tax, plus tyre and mechanical wear, plus congestion charge, plus endless misery of having to sit next to stinky buses and people on Ethnic Peace Bicycles.

I hate trains and would rather hop to many destinations rather than take a train but going to London centre for the day, I would take the train. I only ever drive into London outside of the congestion zone, normally late in the evenings for photographs. Still packed then.

Fair enough but these are advance tickets only available on certain trains.
Not much good if you are a commuter.
Have you checked the advance prices on the First Great Western web site?

I never said it was a commuter train. Newbury to London cheapest advance ticket is £21, Birmingham to London advance ticket is £6. One journey is 120 miles the other is 60. I can't comprehend how twice the mileage can cost nearly 4 times the lesser mileage.

London and Birmingham are 'longer distances' and you are able to buy on line.

Paid £10.50 for a Newbury - Barnstaple ticket, 2 days before travelling. Bought at Newbury train station, with a seat reservation. Full fare was £47.00

Online 'cheap' ticket resellers wanted over £30.00 for the same ticket.

They are not being built wholly in Japan. Some assembly will be done in Britain too.

Great news! Do we get to use a screwdriver, so its semi skilled at least or is it the usual 'snap together'?.

I think all we'd do is put the "Thames Trains" decal on.

You have to push the plastic bits out of the moulding, then glue them together.
