Reading this topic really does make me wonder how on earth this is not the standard policy already.

What kind of half baked system doesn't allocate housing to those with a strong local connection & low incomes?

I thought that was the whole point of social housing.

It'll be interesting to see what the actual criteria they settle upon is. Hopefully some sanity and fairness will return to the system.

I didn't realise there was any council housing left. I thought it was all owned/run by Sovereign.

'Council housing' is run by housing associations such as Sovereign, Jephson. To get a housing association property you have to be on the Council housing list and recommended by them.

So you're saying that even though all the housing owned by councils was sold off to private companies, it's still "council housing"?

Yes. If memory serves, I think was given to housing associations who set themselves up with charity status. Councils still hold the waiting lists and allocate points.

It's just another service that has been outsourced, the council have overall control but the day to day stuff is done by the associations.

I totally agree. It is unbelievable that the qualifications now being put forward for social housing have not been in place already. Sounds like another inept dimension of council procedure. Sometimes it is hard to believe that things can be so wrong.

They have.

Local connections will already accrue you extra points.
