If they think this is bad wait till they do Boundary Road in Newbury!
I wonder if the initiative will be taken to improve and widen the road when the bridge is replaced? Or will it be a lost opportunity like the Parkway river crossing? rolleyes.gif

Well they have completed the £940 million rebuild at Reading Station, but I find it odd that they could not be bothered to install/erect the steel gantries which the overhead powerlines will be fitted too.

Surely it would have been better to do all the steel work whilst the new station was be refitted.

But nope!

He can't put in expenses for walking! tongue.gif


This is a bit odd, what has he got, a Hummer?

The other thing is, why have they got to be closed again, when they were closed for months already?

There would have been no advantage in doing this at this time.
Reading Station has been rebuilt with ample readiness for the wires.
The wires and associated catenary is installed in section by a "factory" train.

There is almost always a difference between the published diversion - suitable for all vehicles - and 'locally known' alternatives. Modern satnavs negotiate hold-ups, but there will be heavy use of minor roads, and those living on those routes will be upset.

The question that I'd like answered is why on earth does it take six months to build a pretty basic bridge?

The latest on the NR website regarding Padworth Bridge says "We're working with the County Council to address issues raised at recent drop-in sessions".

I doubt it would cost him an extra £25 a trip for fuel alone! He was probably factoring in the cost of the extra time taken as well.

At that rate, I'd be thinking of using a train. It'll probably be just about cost effective.
