The best thing for me is the coming together of the family to enjoy each others company.
The worst thing is the rampant commercialism.

Worst = Mince Pies,
Shopping, the shops are only closed for a day you'd think they were closed for a month the way people fill their trolleys.
Credit Card Bills.
WORKING!!

Best = All my family playing stupid games that never come out of the cupboard any other time of the year.
Working, people are generally in a good mood and less likely to try and punch me in the head! laugh.gif
Watching the dog trying to get the wrapping paper off the bone!
Everything actually I love it. laugh.gif

Best thing - Having a few days off work, having a few beers, spending some time with the family and boxing day sport.

Worst thing - Feeling ill after eating too much on Christmas day!

Totally agree.

Rammed down your throat for 3 months of the year is just too much!
(The rampant commercialism that is - not the family)

That's true I guess but the Bloggo familyall like a good time and have a lot of respect for each other. So there will be a few beers, a lot of food and some very corny games. Great!!!!
I even stop moaning. laugh.gif

Hate the run up to Christmas. It's a stress-filled time buying presents for family and relatives (the choosing, not the cost), hordes of frantic shoppers. Then a sigh of relief when the actual day comes.

Thank God Jesus didn't have a brother.

This years competition will be to see at what point over the christmas period you see the first summer holiday advert.
You must name the block of adverts as either before, during, or after the particular tv show and post on here after the christmas holidays!!

Well, the kids have grown up and we have a pact. No presents other than something that cost less than a fiver in a charity shop. Generally means we have two solid days, at home, doing b***** all, save eating, drinking and dozing. Personally I can't wait!

To be perfectly honest I find it rather difficult to come up with anything positive about Christmas .

It starts in August and finishes just before Easter , it makes anyone who doesn't run up a credit card bill the size of a banana republics' GNP a pariah , and then criticises them for doing so . It is held at the coldest time of the year yet we are expected to light big carbon footprint fires to roast small nuts .We buy the biggest turkey we can stuff in our supermarket trolley then spend the next 6 weeks eating it .
It is all done in the name of some chap who supposedly lived 2000 years ago who they thought so much of they killed him .

No Christmas is great for kids and snogging strange women , but everything else is bah humbug ! sad.gif

The best thing is the actual day. The worst thing is the build up to Christmas.

However, I do like Christmas carols in the street. That gives a real feel of Christmas.

I thought the tree was OK, when you look at the rest of the mess that was once our town, I am suprised we've even got a tree. And at the risk of being "humbugged" this shouldn't be in the Newbury News section. I love the feeling I get at Christmas when I realise just how lucky we are to have all the great friends, family and luxuries that we do have. It makes me thin of all the people who have it much worse, and I normally do something rather charitable, and encourage others to do the same. I know it shouldn't be just at Christmas but it a start.
