Sometimes, just sometimes the drivers out there need a kick up their exhaust pipe. Just been out for a sandwich and crossed the road from 20 20 dental surgery to the new Indian (Newbury Lounge?) so looked left up Cheap Street - started to cross the road as nothing coming and some stupid woman turned right coming the opposite direction and very nearly mowed me down. Did not stop just carried on with me screaming after her about not being able to turn right there!!! Is the no right turn sign now obscured by the traffic lights by the bus station/betting office? Mind you also seen a lot of drivers turn right out of Cheap Street too when this is very obviously a no right turn.... Tell you what let's all ignore the traffic signs and just do what we want...

You mean like cyclists do? At least 3 down Bart St the wrong way yesterday and turned right into West Mills from Northbrook ST

Go and stand at any junction and they all do it they just walk out without looking.. Not just the youngsters but mothers with prams, people in their 40s, 50s, 60s.... Baffles me it really does and every time I try and turn into a junction or approach a junction to come out and get the filthiest looks from pedestrians who just walk straight out into the road it really does begger belief. angry.gif

To be fair I am a Pedestrian that often trys to cross at a Zebra only to me nearly mown down by a driver driving without due care and attention. This works both ways...... angry.gif

Come on TDH zebra crossings is one thing but just to walk straight out in the road where there is no zebra, pelican, pedestrian - heck no crossing at all - is different. If you are nearly hit on a zebra (I have too !!) a swift kick to the offending vehicle usually makes them take notice....

The Highway code in Britain instructs that you cannot drive across a zebra crossing until pedestrians are on the pavement. On the continent you do not have to stop at crossings, and when you do, can proceed when pedestrians are clear of your car. Have noticed a lot of continental driving recently and am always very careful now.

Not making this an attack on these European drivers, but as I understand it the DVLA/Courts are unable to give these motorists points when they commit an offense such a dangerous driving or speeding. They can fine them, but because of the computerised systems they cannot add points to a European license as the driver numbers cannot be accessed on the UK systems. - So many of them are free to rack up as many fines as possible, but they cannot rack up points and therefore be disqualified!

A bit off topic maybe, but rather concerning!

I'm not going to be drawn into a "all motorcyclists are bad" argument again.
As you well know there are bad drivers of all vehicles out there .

Like I said - don't tar all with the same brush.

Rule 88

Not sure what you mean by the recession & boy racer comment?
Have you seen the price of biking these days especially for a youngster?
These lads couldn't afford it!

(By the way we're going off topic again - we will get a bollocking! tongue.gif)

What do you think to these road hogging, speeding, noisy, selfish, disregarding, pig ignorant motorcyclists then Old Harry, Brewmaster, Strafin at al?

I don't see the relevance, are you trying to imply that all bikes are on the road for charity? These are two people who have done a great job raising some money for charity, good on them. They happen to have used a motorcycle to do it.

I am implying that people (on here and in other places) use generalisations to comment on things such as the people I have mentioned insinuating that ALL motorcyclists are bad.

This proves they are not!

Firstly I didn't say that all motorcyclists are bad, I said that as road users it seems this summer that a higher percentage are dismissive of the highway code. Secondly the story you quote proves nothing about their riding standards whether or not they are good or bad people, just that they have done a good thing.

I agree, you are right on this one - you did not say all bikers (although other I mentioned have) and the participants in the article could have driven like maniacs!

I enjoy your reasoned arguments on most issues Strafin which you put across without resort to childish insult or sensationalism.

Not quite.

Where a driver is convicted and does not hold a licence issued by the DVLA then a 'ghost licence' is created and the points recorded there. If a DVLA licence is subsequently issued (it is only legal to drive on a non-EU equivalent licence for 12 months) then the points are transferred onto the new licence. If a ghost licence 'tots up' to a ban, then any subsequent offence can lead to arrest and charge of driving whilst disqualified.

This also used to be the case for NI licences, but I believe that points can now be transferred between Swansea and Belfast.

The only difference is that an offence cannot be dealt with by endorsable fixed penalty and must go to Magistrates' Court

Crazy lady just nearly got herself killed by walking out in front of me. I beeped...so she started a rant about having right of way, and reporting ME for careless driving.

Just checked out Highways Code which says pedestrians have priority at a Give Way only when they've already started crossing. This lady was on the pavement, but just stepped out.

Crazy

You should of hit her... seems like she wasn't worth the trouble
