No, but I watched him on TV in Newbury.
The Forum Content police has been stood down; haven't you heard.

Of the 2 forums, this is most appropriate.

Relax, watch this and smile.

That was a great link gel! That little group have been very underrated, great entertainment and very funny. Sad Mel Smith of no real age has now gone. Never saw him anywhere but Newbury,,,

Watching something on TV in Newbury means it happened in or is related to Newbury?

You should work for South Today with tenuous links to local news like that. :-)

Yes, but if you don't like it, feel free to not join in, so that you can leave it to people who care less, or perhaps the forum's admin?

You're saying if I don't like something I shouldn't comment on it?

There would be hardly any posts on here if everyone took that approach.

I never said or suggested 'shouldn't'; that is your fallacy. Post what you like as far as I'm concerned, but perhaps you might find your solace on other forums where posters were more disciplined about where they post.

If we are all going to be snippy, my "pet hate" is that this is another thread with no clue of what it is about in the title, description or thread itself. Surely the idea of posting is to have an opinion or at least invoke a discussion?

I haven't been or posted on here in a few weeks because of the constant sarcastic responses to posts, whether it be about spelling, grammar, posting in the wrong place or just simply having an opinion.

Well Andy1. I agree with you, but a little shelf discipline to get the right thread in the right slot does help.
I have been banned a few times from other forums for drifting from the subject or talking nonsense.
I try and keep to some rules. It is a sad loss of a young life.
I have seen Mel wondering along the side roads behind Regents Street. Just like everyone else. No big deal.
But I have spent the last few years acting out the main character in "Colin's sandwhich".

Slightly odd choice of .jpeg from the NWN.. I recognised the bin as being (I think) City of London.
The walls seemed ecclesiastical. Turned out to be at the funeral of Clement Freud.
I couldn't fault gel's original post.

How very sad. Don't you ever go beyond the town boundary? There is a whole world out there; and much that affects your life in Newbury. For instance, did you realise our local bobbies are managed from Oxfordshire? Your telephone account in India? Yes, I'd love a slot on South Today, have even thought of a title 'Get Carter'!

I await the front page headline of "Comedian from Chiswick dies." in the NWN on Thursday. I also expect to see "Firm hundreds miles away lays of workers with no effect on Newbury" and "Football team another continent all of whom have never even heard of Berkshire win match".

Just because something is shown on TV in Newbury doesn't mean it has any connection with the town. Poor trolling on your part. C-. Must try harder.

What about a company Headquartered in Paddington laying off workers? A member of the Royal family presently resident in Wales having a baby? In some ways you are right and many more things should be kept local - collective bargaining for public service jobs for instance. Then I really would try to get elected; be very careful what you ask for...

This section is for Newbury; that includes watching a TV in Newbury and discussing things in Newbury. His death then is part of Newbury. Therefore he has put it in the right section.

It is doesn't matter if they are tenuous or not; it is still a link. What are you a thought or Newbury forum police patrol officer?

You should speak to Biker about that; he is a thought/ pedantic police of the grammar brigade.

This section is for Newbury News. "Much loved comedian, who's programme was on TV across the country (including Newbury) dies" isn't really Newbury News.

This probably explains why your own Newbury forum didn't do so well. I can imagine you might have had news threads like "Galactic Empire defeated by Rebel Alliance on Newbury televisions"?
