Isn't it depressing to spend years and lots of money producing a first-class pub, and then have the Newbury Weekly News denigrate it.

The article denigrates? I'd hate to think what a slating would look like.

In what way does it denigrate the pub?

Perhaps Brewmaster was referring to the word "hole" in the headline. That's the only thing I can think of.

Good point; it does look a bit naff. The phrase should read 'watering hole', but that would still sound naff.

Maybe, but as we all know, headlines rarely reflect the content of the story, and the article is nothing short of supportive.

I am advised that the text of the article was largely based on the press release from West Berkshire CAMRA, so it is hardly surprising that it was supportive.

The headline was the NWN's own.

Right, so no problem with the story then?
So why the negative vibes in the OP?

What a miserable git - no wonder your cider's so sour. tongue.gif

It doesn't really matter though does it? West Berks CAMRA (which backed the pub smoking ban which is sending so many pubs to the wall) should maybe contemplate its relevance these days considering its dwindling membership.

There's no way the Swan should be pub of the year. The food's overpriced and they've not done anything different this year to be singled out.

But of course there's no way of finding out as the voting is shrouded in mystery. Which is why this award and CAMRA has little credibility.

The problem with forums like this is that they attract people of low intelligence, with IQs struggling to reach double figures, whose idea of a debate is to hurl personal insults at people whose opinion differs from theirs.

I suppose one must feel sorry for them.

For once, BM, I agree with you. (Avoiding a one word reply of support!)

I believe it prudent to scrutinise one's own performance, before criticising others - although I do think it rude of people (who I am certain have an IQ within the normal range) to suggest you produce substandard cider. I know for a fact that's not necessarily the case having enjoyed some of it in the past. wink.gif

When you post something on here, it is usually a complaint regards the standard of English. I suggest you should just be grateful that yours is better than most. smile.gif

Yes - criticising Brewmaster's cider is not on! We used to go to Sheepdrove mainly to sample his mulled brew with the hog roast! smile.gif
