Well- not really for Newbury, for Shaw.

Newbury Town Council and Shaw *** Donnington Parish Council have been treated to a 'consultation' presentation by developers who are aiming to build up to 700 houses on the fields either side of the A339 - with access via the Vodafone roundabout.

They talked about putting in for planning permission in November.

At this rate Newbury will double in size by 2030.

Well, I think we all knew that. Could be quite exciting! Just one thing, as this will happen, let's try and make sure our dear civic leaders don't go into denial, just as they always have in the past., Infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure.

Absolutely. I've had more than enough of the pathetic political bun-fights that pass for local democracy, I want to see my local politician all holding the local authority to account and insisting on well-planned quality designed urban development - Sandleford for example is an absolutely ideal site, and yet there appears to be every possibility that the road infrastructure has been bodged, and what we were sold as a Country Park turns out to be a pig in a poke, and the local politicos are only bothered about courting the nimby vote. There's no reason to suppose that Shaw-cwm-Donnington will be any better. We need some courage and aspiration in our local politics.
