Just like to congratulate Laura and her whole team on a well fought campaign and I hope she can help bring the party back to the middle ground and fight not just for the party ideals but also for the people she is meant to represent. Well done.

Ironic really, because it was within the grasp of those who wanted one. They just had to refuse the election. But history now. It's time to move on. We are where we are and we just have to hope Johnson acts responsibly since all Tory MPs swore an oath of allegiance.

Interesting perspective. You only want an election if the result is what you want? Democracy eh? What a sh1t.... and before you join the "but 52 percent voted for pro remain parties" that is rubbish. 30 percent (or 3 million voters) of pro leave voters voted Labour anyway. It's in the DNA. So as even Verhoftwat admitted it's over.

Understandable; I suspect the day of the 'on-line forum' is over. The other Newbury Forum seems to have shrunk back even further and that one still seems to attract new members. It's two years since this forum was graced by anyone new. Doubtless, getting NWNs in house IT support to switch the thing off would be more trouble than it's worth, so they'll just let it wither away and some would say so what.

Shame really as it allows one to throw an opinion into the wider audience from the comfort of an armchair. The problem has been with this, and I guess similar forums, is the intransigence of some of the contributors. I may believe that black is the new blue but I do not expect others to agree until the case is proven though by the same token if someone says it's actually orange then I will listen.

Oh well Leave lost then as they had less than 50% of the vote. With Corbyn as leader, the vote could never be just about Brexit. Unfortunately.

Safe to say that this was the election Corbyn lost as opposed to a Johnson win. Even after such a humiliating defeat they still can't see why it all went wrong, which says an awful lot about their potential governing ability.

In spite of three years worth of remain enthusiasts explaining why Brexit would be a horrific mistake the Party to staunchly maintain its Brexit position and made it its flagship policy wiped the board. What don't the LibDems and Labour understand about public opinion? The Country, outside the metropolitan bubble, simply wants out of Europe.

All this rhetoric over leave or remain is now a pointless exercise. The tories now have a mandate from the electorate to do what ever they want and one of those "wants" is to leave the EU. By the time the next GE is upon us, ('24), we will be well and truly out so even if we then elect a pro membership government it will take years to re-join. Something the snp should bear in mind if the persist in their self destruct route of independence at any cost.
