Would the head lines have been 'Scot looses' if he hadn't of got into the final
Posted by: Strafin Jan 28 2010, 08:27 PM
No, they probably would use the word loses!
Posted by: JeffG Jan 28 2010, 08:29 PM
Strafin, shouldn't that be "would of used"?
Posted by: Strafin Jan 28 2010, 08:35 PM
No that's even worse. I think the phrase you are looking for is "would have", but I am talking in the present tense.
Posted by: Darren Jan 28 2010, 09:28 PM
Also headlines is all one word.
In the next edition of Pedant Monthly...

Recently I haven't much.
Still lunch breaks and "spare time" gotta be used somewhere.
Anyway I hope Murray wins the final. He's beaten Federer before I believe, but his record of 23 back to back Grand Slam semis or better is unbelieveable. If Andy's at his best it could be a great final.

And oh and why we are at it - Lets give them there Country back so they can 'self-govern'
See how they get on without English Taxation. After all - They have no oil left!!

Yes, another typical single white oppressed male living in modern Britain.

I like to be 'controversial' - Come on it brightens all of your days!

I hope Federer wins, I think he's a better player to watch and his grammar is far superior!!

He probably has a greater 'admiration' for the English as well!

As a new user I am amazed at the posts on this forum. You all seem to lose sight of the initial comment and fall into abusing other users. This one seems like 'little boys trying to get one over on the other'.
Can't you keep to the subject?

You're going to need a better sense of humour than that Betsy...

A total of two posts and you're off topic allready!
Posted by: betsy Jan 29 2010, 07:34 PM
I rest my case Tommi!
Getting back to the original post I totally agree with Andy1. If Andy had lost early on he would have been Scottish. Now he is in the final he is British.
At least he has done better so far than Henman and Co.
Posted by: regor Jan 29 2010, 07:41 PM
Yes, well, British for today. Come the final and he will either revert to being a Scottish looser or, in the event that he wins, he will not only be British but probably an honorary Englishman.
Any way - good luck to him.
As regards off topic little boys etc etc - well if you take a look at a few other threads you will see that at least half of them descend into point scoring and off topic rantings after a handful of posts. Some of us have complained about this in the past but it seems that the majority like it that way.
ho hum

I'd suggest practicing what one preaches, especially as a newbie.
Please also note these icons; they represent an attempt to show that one is only being light hearted.

British, Scottish, English, I couldn't careless, he's not a sports personality that I have warmed to. He's no-where near the class sportsman that other champions have displayed.
