I saw them yesterday in Northbrook Street and thought they brightened up a dull day perfectly - lots of smiling (and yes a few bemused) faces - and even some strangers talking to each other!

Good to see the events manager doing her job, and laying on events - just a shame that some didn't see it that way, particularly Camp Hopson's security chap - he clearly doesn't "do" christmas. I'd never seen Camps look so alive! Although surprised the store wasn't prepared for their arrival with a warm welcome, especially as they're on the Town Centre Partnership - or was it a another of their secrets?!

I saw that as well and I noticed a lot of people smiling so it brought happiness to the shoppers dull day.

It would have been even better if they told people and promoted these "events". I think this events organiser is doing a fair bit better than the last one, although I still think the position on the whole is a bit of a waste of time and money.

I agree, as I only found out about it because I was in town.

I had a day off Friday and did a bit of Xmas shopping in the afternoon.

Thought the "grannies" were a great laugh and the spontaneity of it all made it a very unexpected amusement.

I have to agree - I saw them in Northbrook Street and again in the Kennet Centre on Friday. I thought they were absolutely superb - it DID make people stop and talk to eachother and I don't recall seeing so many smiles! Well done - would love to see these Grans again.

I'm sure they were a laugh, I just question the value. If people turned up to see events/acts like this then great. But if you only saw them because you were there anyway then the purpose of promotion is lost so what's the point? If events like this happened with the frquency where Newbury became known for it then that too would be great.

No I didn't. I asked if they were promoting something and questioned what they would be doing if they weren't.

My full quote untwisted by User; But if you only saw them because you were there anyway then the purpose of promotion is lost so what's the point? ie if they are not promoting something then what are they there for. The question mark on the end indicates that the preceeding line is a question.
