Although from what I see the new junction appears to be an improvement.

I would have thought that, with this new junction, the entrance to Faraday Road from the A4 could have been closed making A4 traffic flow more easily?

One could argue that doing the report was a massive waste of money. Firstly, we already knew what it says and secondly, judging by the official comments, WBC have absolutely no intention of even trying to learn from its findings.

I agree with you Newres, but then I suppose it depends on your home location (assuming you are a Newbury resident).
I work in Basingstoke and have since day one of the junction opening used it to avoid the RHR. It cuts a few minutes of my journey and fuel consumption. I have noticed that when I DO use that route, there are so few others using it. That says, to me, that the majority that are using the A339 are for locations outside Newbury. Time will tell, when the intended developments are concluded.

The right turn while going north seems to take forever, making me think I wish I had just carried on.

Waiting and driving give a different perspective. but yes, it does seem that way.
It also depends at which point within the cycle you decide to join it.
