Politician's moaning about social media abuse, An idea? Options

Don't use social media. Or be a bit more hard nosed. If you open a twitter account and start espousing what people should think you will always be the subject of abhorrent and sometimes racist abuse by a tiny but significant percentage of social media users that are trolls or unhinged or far left or far right etc...

Not nice but part of modern life. Deal with it. Or close your account and release press statements via another forum. Or just get another job!!!

It would appear that we have that eternal balancing act between freedom of speech and state censorship. Do we really want to return to a time when everything we put into print was subjected to approval? Of course not and that is what the half wits who abuse the modern media format fail to grasp. A lot of rhetoric is banded about the use of social media in the proliferation of Islamic fundamentalism and the call to close down those sites that encourage but that in itself will not stop terrorism. Indeed if anything it will make tracking of individuals harder.

Whatever we put into print is subject to the law of the land. Libel, incitement to violence etc can land you in court - if you can be identified. Hiding behind internet anonymity is a way of evading arrest or civil proceedings, a way to break the law without penalty. Don't curtail social media, just get rid of the anonymity.
