http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-40653383Now we all knew that these over paid non entities existed but bloody **** how on earth is this sort of money justified ? Little wonder those on low incomes feel kicked in the goolies . Most of them are journalists who sit there reading an auto queue , which admittedly they have prepared earlier, but would the content be any less so if a provincial hack had done it ? Maybe we should withhold our licence contributions, or donate to a cause more worthy than the pocket of the privileged few.

A £1.1bn deal between the BBC and Sky for 10 Twenty20 games seems better value for money. Of course the Sky Presenters pay will be a lot more than the BBC

I have just noted that my original rant has fallen foul of the censor . Now I am sure there are certain words not used in polite society or on on this forum, but a four letter word for the habitat of the anti christ is hardly warrants removal especial when used as an interjection of disbelief rather than a crude expletive.........or does it ? From now on I shall use the euphemism Hades house ....

QUOTE (je suis Charlie @ Jul 19 2017, 05:54 PM) And yet people get paid an order of magnitude more just to kick a ball round a pitch, and no-one complains. Weird. I do ! Most of them don't even break sweat and yet they are portrayed as the perfect roll model for our youngsters . Not sure how much a hospital surgeon earns but to my mind anyone who uses their skill to save lives should be at or near the top of the earnings tree.

Whatever his salary was he was worth a hundred of the ginger tosser! Bit harsh old chap Just goes to show that ability has very little to do with success, more a case of being in the right place at the right time. A generation ago he would probably be just another " wanna be " with no sign of achieving . Having said that, he is earning a couple of million / year and we are not, ( well I'm not anyway ).

QUOTE (On the edge @ Jul 20 2017, 06:41 PM) Arguably, the real blame lies with the similarly overpaid and demonstrably incompetent BBC executives who agreed to pay these sums. There is a very simple answer to people who demand money by threatening to go; just let them. To other media outlets. Who will pay. And we end up with the dross. Still, off now for my three weeks in the Maldives. Have fun everyone, and play nice!

Have fun everyone, and play nice! Like the dross we have now you mean? Do we actually need a public services broadcaster that has created a heavily subsidised popular entertainment business? The existing commercial services are more than able to provide the stuff the BBC does and would do so better and cheaper. Basic 'O' level economics. (Have a nice time in the Maldives, shame its only three weeks though and doesn't include connectivity!)

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Jul 21 2017, 09:13 AM) The licence fee is worth it if only to avoid the sunami of adverts on other live channels. I'd agree that a compulsory tax would be worth it if it provided a truly disinterested news channel and perhaps a showcase for dramatic art not commercially viable. Ironically, the BBC does promote itself with heavy advertising and it's not immune to product placement - particularly when it covers commercial sport. Advertising can easily be controlled on commercial channels through their own licences. Programme interruptions aren't the only way to advertise. For what it should provide, the TV licence fee is too far high arguably because of the excessive greed of the managers and 'talent'. That in itself is damaging and dangerous to society; suggesting that the best and fastest way to make money and at the same time exert influence is to get yourself into a public funded monopoly.

I like the adverts. Half the time I haven't a clue what they are trying to market but who cares , least if you fall asleep you know it is going to be repeated in 10 minutes time. Bet the actors in the "famous grouse" ad don't get paid much, but it well worth sitting up late to watch .

QUOTE (blackdog @ Jul 21 2017, 12:08 PM) Advertising has ceased to be such a pain since the advent of a Sky box in my home - I rarely watch commercial TV channels live these days and find it easy to fast forward through the ads. Even when watching live I will often pause to make a cup of coffee, answer the phone, etc which then allows me to skip the ads for the rest of the programme. For me, adverts have never been a bigger nuicence.
