Three caravans and accompanying 5,000 children have parked up in the green opposite where the old Hospital was on Andover Road.
It's been a while since I've seen any. What's the usual time before they get moved along to the next undeserved town?

I hope it's not more than half an hour.

This is really bad news.

Seems they have been given notice to leave and the Council are hoping they will be gone tonight.

And it's to be hoped WBC will obtain cash, of which they'll have wads of (untaxed),
to pay for the clearance not taxpayers??
If not forthcoming,
I suggest they could remove one of their high end vehicles normally present on such sites,
and keep somewhere safe until ££ received.

Yes, and I bet they got away with whatever the"criminal damage" they commited was.
Did the Council, Police, anyone in authority follow this up?

Somebody must have done something, I have to say that was a very quick response from whoever sorted it. Unless they just decided Newbury wasn't for them...

Just to clear up some understandable confusion, the area the travellers parked on is not owned by West Berkshire Council, but by Newbury Town Council, whose officers very quickly got involved in moving the travellers on.

I understand the area is now clear and damage is being assessed. If you would like more information please contact the Town Hall, Market Place.

Top Job. I think it would be good if you spread the word about this forum to other Councillors. It might prove useful for them to see what is bothering some of the local community and give you an insight into some of the social problems in the area. It would also give you a chance to give reasoned responses to some of us who may become 'over-zealous' at times (including me!) wink.gif

Hello Mr Allen. Good to hear you repond to this.
I also agree with the reply you had from TD&H.
My concern is that none of the Travelers will be held reponsible for the damage done and the tax payer will be picking up the bill yet again.
This casual and irresponsible behaviour of this group of people needs to be stopped and they need to be held accountable for the mess they leave behind.
Thanks you.

Yes Bill in this instance you are correct however you can understand why people are so fed up with this continued abuse of the rules that the rest of us abide by.

Life isn't binary, and that is why sometimes, what appears to be an open and shut situation to one, isn't necessarily the same to another.

Why are they politely referred to as travellers, when everyone knows they are really tax-dodging parasitic conmen(or women!)? angry.gif
