So, it seems that our local Councillors feel that we have no money to properly refurbish the Council's Waterside Centre, so they are looking for a partner to develop the place for them. Assurances that it will be 'for the benefit of the community' have been given.
Isn't it rather odd to be told we can't find a few bob for a lick of paint and a tidy round, when we can find the cash to build a splendid new cafe pavilion just yards away in a presently green park.
Surely something seriously amiss here?

Irritatingly, NWN are inaccurate with their headline: "Newbury community building will not be sold, council says."
No they didn't, they said: “It is the intention that the building will remain for community use".
So contrary to the headline, there has been no assurance at all that it won't be sold.
I don't like to slag-off the NWN, but on this the NWN headline is bovine excrement.

So the moral of this story is to give the Waterside to the town council - they'll find a way to sort it out.

Can't argue with this - a total lack of assurance.
And, let's face it, WBC don't have a good track record in selling property - they usually give it away. Nice site for a pub, a pub that the community can use. Add a dozen flats and Bob's your uncle.

....and Parish Councils do a pretty poor job refurbishing and keeping assets in good order!
Ironically, the only people who make out of these slights of hand are the senior legal and policy clerks at WBC. Years of unproductive effort on the horizon doing simple wooden dollar asset transfers.
Isn't it about time we just let the waves wash over WBC? It provides no benefit whatsoever to the majority of the charge payers.
Dear Theresa is getting very upset about British Gas bumping up its prices; but at least its delivering something its customers actually want.
