Is this actually going to happen this time? after months of rumours. It would be nice a have another large shop in Newbury town, i really miss going into town & looking around Woolworths. It is also good that it is going to bring another 85 jobs to the town.

Agreed, although I am not sure if they sell the same sort of products as Robert Dyass do, if that is the case competition could get interesting.

Whatever they put in Woolworths place we need something. An empty shop doesn't look good.

From what I've seen, they sell everything from combs to stationery to batteries via gardening sundries and dusters - all reasonably priced. Hold hard, though - isn't that what Woolworths used to do years ago? Anyway, it will be a popular place if it does open, as seems fairly likely.

HOORAY!

At long last. I cannot stand that awfully downmarket sight of the closed Woolworths.

Please open it soon!

Weren't you forced to entertain the Romans by being thrown to the lions? Was that because you took the pick'n'nick-mix? wink.gif

When will Wilkinson open?

I begin to wonder if Wilkinson has bought this site.

I seen no sign of life in resurrecting this shop. It still looks the black hole of Calcutta.

I would have thought Wilkinson would have wanted to get the shop going again ready for Christmas.

Was this story another red herring I ask?

I had similar thoughts. The busiest trading time of the year is coming up, if they're not in there in the next few weeks I can't see moving in until next Spring, if at all.

As far as I can see, it was just a rumour started by the OP with this thread.

I have heard that Wilkinsons, (who only use arctics for deliveries), have been told that as there now has to be an extension of the car park for the new development there will not access to the loading bay at the back. So they are no longer going to take the building unless the delivery issue can be solved. This is however just hear say but did come from someone working on the site.
