Oh God. Don’t start them again off again.

But this issue brings into disrepute the European Convention on Human Rights. We have a convicted violent criminal permitted to stay because a member state has gaols deemed not suitable. I would say that the rights of the population should be higher than those of a convicted criminal who was convicted in a member state. The message now to convicted violent criminals in Romania is get yourself to the UK.

Facts hurt your agenda? Andy is a very moderate man. Even he deems this an issue. How would you defend it? Human rights??

Simple enough answer surely. All we need to do is give him a fair trial for his misdemeanours in this Country which has to be legitimate to do for someone seeking the protection of UK law. If we find him guilty, we bang him up. Arguably any cost could come from Foreign Aid budget as the impoverished but peaceable Romanian government will be very grateful for us helping reduce pressures on its administration of justice system. Rather surprised the Mail didn't connect these issues as they seem to be campaigns of theirs; but then again, the Mail isn't a paper for thinkers!

It's the first I've heard of it and I doubt we're getting a balanced picture from the Mail, but it does look like a loophole that needs plugging. Stop seething.

I found the following snippet from the article rather amusing -

"Semi-open jails also give inmates plenty of freedom. Detainees can buy food every week in the prison shops and may be allowed to spend all day outside their cells. They have to return to their rooms only for meals and roll call".

Especially the purchasing of food bit, saves the state supplying it. laugh.gif
Why do we adhere to the rules yet the rest just take the money and put two fingers up to EU directives? And they still wonder why we wanted out. angry.gif

Is this an EC directive? In my youth we lived opposite a retired Prison Warder who served his lady years in an Open Prison - he used to make the same accusations! That was before we'd even joined the EU!

I voted leave, but one niggle I've had for a long time, had been the attitude of our own civil service. Our disillusion with over burdensome rules and regulations won't actually get better; our record prior to entry demonstrates our very own efforts were similar if not worse!

I tend to agree but, as had been said before, these are our rules, not ones imposed by "johnny foreigner". It is the sole point of government to control the proletariat not "liberalise" them.

Surely it amounts to the same thing. Fairness, consideration for othees. Less need for the stick if we instill these values rather than anger and prejudice?
