QUOTE (On the edge @ Dec 12 2017, 10:11 PM) Yeah........in the States. Most of you wouldn't know even how to lift a machine gun let alone fire it. Love all the Dad's Army talk though! Frankly, if I wanted to clear a room, indeed a whole suburb, I wouldn't bother with firearms or even knives. If you really want to scare yourself to sleep think how easy it is to post small packages from the Far East. So, if it keeps you happy, keep on with the air rifles and take out a few bunnies! Reassuring to know that despite a complete breakdown in world order the postal service carries on . Incidentally during the English Civil War they were operating and delivering to both sides . About 40 years ago I had the fortune , or misfortune , to fire an AK47 . Bloody Frightening ! Basically you pointed it in the general direction you wanted to hit and kept the trigger pulled until it obliterated the target . No finesse , just a very loud killing machine.

Probably quicker than finding a hammer in my garage though. Must tidy that out soon. We were told "short bursts, three or four rounds at a time". This concept of holding the trigger down and hosing everyone away only happens in Hollywood apparently!.

This concept of holding the trigger down and hosing everyone away only happens in Hollywood apparently!. Of course it doesn't just happen in Hollywood, albeit that's where it's glamorised, so the knucklehead element of the American population see the use of firearms as their answer to intellectual supremacy - if you don't like it shoot it - as we see time and time again. It might seem matcho to your mates down the club to bang on about using big firearms, rather like the classic 'let's nuke 'em'. In reality, all that does is switch off thinking. Worse, concentration on promoting or preventing just one mode of weapon simply encourages people bent on destruction to think up and employ alternative and often far more subtle ways of meeting their objectives. Suicide missions are a good illustration. In the UK, can't get guns easily, making bombs is ok, but can be detected and needs a bit of expertise......but a bog standard rental white van? Might be better then, to try and solve the root cause of the problem.

[quote name='je suis Charlie' post='118480' date='Dec 13 2017, 02:35 PM']Well, scouts must have substantially changed since my day if they're now doing pigeon shooting and field stripping .303s badges now. Still you come across as being very much the expert in all sorts of organisations involving small boys and uniforms. :lol Been trying to work out what you mean. If that''s all you have on your mind, I must have touched a raw nerve.

Obviously we share the same garage . Why is it one can never find what is required even though it is in there somewhere ?
