Come back 192 service from BT: blink.gif

Fortunately being PC savvy I never have to use one of the Directory Enquiries for finding phone no's;

however, those without a PC skills/a PC are paying a fortune from all big providers.
Pass on the cheaper alternative mentioned (118365) to any non PC users you know.

Surely the online phonebook is now the favoured choice of most!
You say it affects those without PC skills but these days so do many (if not most) things.
According to WBC in their parking policy most have a smartphone now so should not be difficult even when out!
I should imagine that fewer are using the 118 service as other technologies take over thus the need to increase fees.
Another way of reducing phone costs (for those with PC skills) is to avoid using 08xx numbers (apart from 080 which is free) using sites such as this.

The BT Service 118 500 or 118 404 is expensive too.

59p +2.39 per minute or part of so £2.98 minimum charge from a BT line more from other providers and potentially more £5.37 for example if your call lasts 61 seconds.

This may be true, but the money 118 118 spends on TV advertising suggests that they are still doing good business.

All the directory services are relatively useless these days - unless you are a BT customer you don't get listed - so many get their landline from another supplier, or only use a mobile that the chances are that you'd spend £4+ on a 118 service and still not get the number you are looking for.

I am not surprised that they've put up their prices. I am surprised people still use them. I haven't used them since the last century. We have phones books and the internet to check for numbers. Any number I didn't have, but wanted, I got of the Internet. I am sure - somewhere along the line - they will cease to exist. Nobody is going to keep a service that is dwindling and dying.
