I wasn't sure it was necessary to start a new thread, but I just noticed that we have a few new posters here and wanted to say how cool that was. Welcome newbies, nice to see you on here and I'm sure everyone on here is happy to see you too.

Newbie is an accepted term used on the Internet for the past 10 years or so to denote someone new.
I guess Deal Or No Deal must use it too. |

The memories of the typing pool come flooding back like some nostalgic nuance .
In hindsight maybe another loss to our heritage , but more than that is the vast numbers of typing jobs that have been replaced by the wretched word processor .

These days most offices have a computer on every desk, with people sending their own emails etc., whereas in the olden days you dictated a memo which was then typed up by someone else. I think most people these days find it easier to type reports etc. directly, than write them out or dictate them and send them for typing by someone else. |

Just thought I'd raise this topic again - I notice that there are now 620 registered users on this forum and yet it seems to be the same couple of dozen posters (myself included) who seem to do most of the posting.
It would be nice if a few new fresh contributors were to join in. How about it?

I am a typist - learnt on the old typewriter !!! The role of typist is beoming less and less because as you say people are now typing so much more for themselves. Not only that there are now special dictation systems where you dictate and it types it for you so give it 10 years and I suspect the job that was done by about 6 or 7 will be done by 1. Ahh progression such a wonderful thing.
