I went into the New Newbury Bakery in Northbrook St and was impressed.

I hear the price of their pasties have gone up recently! tongue.gif If it is Parkway, then that is a good spot for people as they leave for the carpark and the journey home.

Myself as a charity worker, in the town centre. I have frequent access to a computer during work (I deal mainly with the stock, so in the back). I venture out only for lunch, occasionally. Normally, I bring in the left overs of a lovely meal cooked by Mrs T. Sometimes though, I do forget. Probably a symptom of being in my 40's.

I went to Panouchia's. Or something. Unsure of the spelling. It was down where the old Taxi rank used to be. Never had heard of it before, until once I made an accidental wrong turn. It was nice but, for the cost, I felt less than value for money. I had a chicken and bacon baguette. Aspiration to be French, it goes back to my youth. With a can of Coke, because I was in a bit of a rush, I didn't get a coffee, and a packet of Walkers, was over Five of my British pounds.
These days, I return to Sainsburys. It costs £3 for the same. The Nectar points add up too, as I do my regular shopping there.

If only there was a small kitchen available, I could bring in food and prepare it. I suppose the cost per day, would be substantially reduced.
But makes little odds to me.

The Empire Cafe is the only one for me. Been going in there since I was a kid.

I'm pretty sure they haven't redecorated since then. I love the fact that it refuses to move with the times. It is what it is and I love the place.

It has a good rep and a traditional feel to it, although I am not really a 'pasty' person, as it were.

Gosh! Do you mean to say that we actually get to see what Gregg's is like, instead of just hearing about it on the news? smile.gif

Isn't that a running joke with many of those stand up laughing people, who mumble on about Greggs causing obesity. Not as bad as McDonalds I imagine. Although not a diet expert.

I believe it is a Peter Kay joke. He refers to large people as a friend of Gregg's- "Now Sheila, she's a friend of Gregg's."

I agree, baked on the premises bread not factory produced mush. And still the best Lardy cakes for miles. tongue.gif

Rather sad. Whilst the rest of the Country is trying to attract business of any description to the High Street - what do we do? Moan about every venture that dares try.

I'm not sure that is true in this instance, although I doubt Greggs are doing it for altruistic reasons.

you forgot the Cornish Pasty Company...how I don't know as they occupy one of the most prominent positions in town.

I wonder when they are going to build their deck?
