The new owners of The Mill in Thatcham are looking for suggestions for a new name for the pub.

Given the high standard of nearly human clientele that has frequented the place up to now, I suggest the following;

"The White Van"
"The Bogus Caller"
"The Thieving Pikey"
"The Electronic Tag"
"The Benefit Fraudster"

Any others?

Sorry, I haven't actually seen this Mill you speak of.. But the names sound like excellent sort of establishments, I would definitely visit... I actually had to google it to find it was at the bottom of the Cold Ash hill/near Dustun Park. Never been there although the "two can dine for £7.50" deals were enticing.

Why is there such a dislike to the place? I don't understand it, sort of like Mandarin. But sort of like Mandarin just because I do not understand, doesn't mean it doesn't make sense.

Why not go there when the place is fairly full and loudly announce your suggestions to the pub's customers and see what they say? laugh.gif

Along with the delights of The Wheatsheaf, Paggie's Bar, and according to NWN's pages, the Black Horse.

What chance luring Marco Pierre White away from Highclere?

What would they say? A series of grunts delivered from beneath over developed foreheads I should imagine.
They'd all be too preoccupied trying to read each others tattoos to notice me anyway.

That gives me an idea for another name. "The Tattooed F***wit" I think we have a winner!

I should add that I'm hopping on a bandwagon here. I don't even know if it's bad or not.

Best of luck to the new owners. I genuinely hope you can turn this reputation around.

The Working Glass.

Seriously though, is this venting of so much prejudice really healthy? No, I don't suppose from what's been said that the clientele are professional weekend car-washing graduate church-going school governor Waitrose-shopping articulate Daily Mail-reading golfers, but how about some live-and-let-live?

Yep, I hope they can make a go of it, funny pub names aside. The problem is the style (or lack thereof) of the building and its location. It's not exactly quaint country pub stuff, is it?

And I'd love to see Marco Pierre White there giving it the full 'ca marche' routine as he doles out the frozen scampi & chips. I wonder what the mouth breathers propping up the bar would make of that?
