I don't really know about "Swifts of Newbury", but they have been absent from London this year. Always quite a sight shrieking overhead. I used to have regular nests under the pantiles in Norfolk. Quite amazing flying into a small gap, folding wings, and they disappeared in a second. (Sort out Lightning 11 Lockheed.) Nothing last year and even less this year. But my little plot in London has seen an increase in friendly wobbins and wrens. Cockney "sparrers" that squabbled in a nest behind a downpipe have been gone for ages. I won't go into the climate stuff, but we do notice that some things come and go. ce
