QUOTE (TallDarkAndHandsome @ Apr 23 2012, 11:26 AM) Further to the rant about the Grand National being cruel I think that the London Marathon should also be banned.
How many more runners do we need to lose? People seem to die every year in this cruel and barbaric race. well obviously the health and safety agency will get involved and call for the marathan to be reduced by 25 miles

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Apr 23 2012, 12:25 PM) I didn't see anyone being whipped over jumps by a jockey, or being persuaded to run the race where they didn't want to. 'whipped over jumps by a jockey' - jockeys tend not to use the whip when jumping fences. 'persuaded to run the race where they didn't want to' - If a horse does not want to run it won't. I've seen many dig there heels in and refuse to race. And it makes no difference what a jockey does to try and make it run.

QUOTE (TallDarkAndHandsome @ Apr 23 2012, 01:25 PM) How do you know? They might like it. Have you asked one? I have. I asked a horse if he minded jumping big fences and he answered 'Nay'

How many more runners do we need to lose? People seem to die every year in this cruel and barbaric race. I'm assuming that this facetious post is a reference to the tragic death of a female competitor on Sunday. An appalling loss for the young woman's family, but unfortunately it happens. Get 40,000 people together for half a day and the chances of one of them dying is statistically quite high just because that's a lot of people and we all have to go some time. On balance being fit and taking exercise is far better for your physical and mental health than not.

How many more runners do we need to lose? People seem to die every year in this cruel and barbaric race. People get great pleasure out of it. Everything you do has risks. Like walking across the road (more people die walking across the road than running marathons). Maybe we should just ban people dying?

QUOTE (Penelope @ Apr 24 2012, 10:34 AM) getting a bit off subject now, suggest you reign it in now. It's just horseplay and as for GMR, he was never at the races.
