What's everyone's thoughts on coming out of lockdown?
I'd like testing to be upped significantly still (500000 a day at least) and some powers be devolved to local authorities.
We have had very few cases in West Berkshire the last few days..you could get into a situation where the epidemic is erradicated locally but we are still in lockdown because of other areas.
West Berks Council could then issue a certificate of residence so only people locally could use amenities (to stop interlopers from other areas). Thoughts?

You wouldn't need a special certificate of residence for this because any of the following existing documents would suffice in my opinion:

1. Recent council tax bill
2. West Berkshire Card
3. Vehicle permit for the tip

However, implementing this is very divisive in my opinion since particularly to the south of Newbury there are many villages in Hampshire whose nearest town is Newbury.

Even a regional solution would cause problems since again West Berkshire is right on the edge of the South East region that is immediately adjacent to the South West region.

In my personal opinion we should unfortunately be moving at the speed of the most affected areas, as frustrating as that may end up becoming in the future.

I agree with you. We do need to have this conversation though. One of my jobs is believe it or not is to try and predict future events. I warned our transformation team back in January about this virus and although it was not considered a priority, at least we had some basic plans for survival after. The results were a bleed of 10 Million a month rather than 30 million plus a month. This effectively helped 7600 employees remain in furlough+ where we made up the extra 20% of salary up to a take home of 2.5k. Newres might think I'm an **** but I'm comfortable knowing I've helped more people than he ever would have. We (my company) also can now exist until mid 2021 like we are. Without intervention we would have been done by September of this year. Sorry for the rant but I have been doing 18 hour days and I don't think some people have a clue.☹

The company that I work for have also had to make the difficult decision to ask all staff to reduce their salaries by 10% for the next 3 months in order to avoid any redundancies. We can't furlough anybody because we have work coming out of our ears but some delays in the order pipeline are beginning to cause some cashflow issues in the short term.

I'm not going to mention landlords... our Suppliers have been in general very understanding...but some of our landlords have not been so "considerate"...all companies have some very difficult decisions in order to survive and many millions of jobs will be lost. Sad...but it literally is the survival of the fittest. Furlough will be cut soon to probably 60% and then the real moaning will start. At 80% it really didn't affect many people as a lot of people spent 20% of monthly income in travel. So they have been no worse off.

If the volume of traffic is any indicator one could be forgiven to think it was all over anyway. Not to sure that we need to "relax" officially as it will just lead to more rule bending, and equally I would be non to happy if we eased off and residents of neighbouring towns like Reading exploited the situation. My near neighbour who is in her 90's appears to be having quite a family gathering in her garden so obviously the message is still not being heard by those who have no wish to hear.

A couple of weeks extra might cause some additional discomfort, but far better than the consequences of the alternative longer term. If we can get a reasonably disciplined approach; then medium / long term we have an unrivalled opportunity, if we can invigorate our entrepreneurial and management skills. There are some concerns of course, a disfunctional US and at home, property sector's loosing safe investment favour. Threats and opportunities are bespoke by sector and there are some interesting models about. So, there are some even bigger and some would see scary decisions needed once lockdown starts lifting but let's seize the opportunity and be careful investment wise, we really don't want to be e,ectrifying railways by installing immersion heaters in steam engines as my old boss used to say!
