But I like horse and would probably eat it....

Try popping in to a high street optician.

From experience most will complete basic repairs there and then and, if easy, for little to no charge.

If one tries to sell you frames then try another for a second opinion!

Simon, I mean no offence but how can I possibly be wrong if I say that those who are locked up do not commit offences! They're locked up so how, at that time can they be committing offences?

Long term, I appreciate that it may not pay big dividends but please tell me the alternative because not much else seems to be effective!

Where locking them up DOES work is that whilst they are locked up, the rest of the law abiding society does not have to endure their criminality and strangely, they don't commit offences.

Was driving on the roundabout yesterday after someone posed the question about the police assisting with traffic control and a thought occurred to me.

Looking at the lane numbers and sizes, traffic approach speeds and traffic volume on the roundabout, how many people would it take to safely manage the traffic flow when the lights are out?

Oh the joys of random thoughts...

• The over-representation of minority groups in prison and the issues around imprisonment of women.

Ummm, assuming that, in general the justice system is fair then logically the only reason that 'minority groups' are over represented is that they commit the crime (or just get caught more frequently...!)

And what issues over imprisonment of women?

QUOTE (pbonnay @ May 19 2013, 05:42 PM) *
To that, I would include the behaviour of many who hold senior positions in our public services (e.g. BBC and local authorities). After yet another scandal where people have suffered, I am sick and tired of hearing "we will learn the lessons.." etc. We do not pay these people such huge salaries for them to be on a learning curve. They are meant to be the top people in their field, experienced and competent.

While I do agree with you, not every scenario can be foreseen and if one is at the enviable position where one can know and can foresee everything then I hear there may be a space or two available in the godhood...

People are people and mistakes will always be made. The test comes from learning from and not repeating them.

And the latest from NWN...

"Pirates, paramedics and even a group of astraonauts, as well as plenty of other Crafty Crafters, are making their way along the Kennet and Avon canal in celebration of the Newbury Round Table’s 60th..."

And later...

"Less than 90 minutes since the first crafters set sale and teams are already breezing across the finish line at Victoria Park to applaudes from the public."

Oh. My. God.

There were 2,183 complaints against Thames Valley Police recorded by the IPCC in 2011. There were a total of 34,000 complaints made against all 43 police forces. I would suggest that this figure would indicate that Thames Valley Police have at least their fair share of misconduct. So the assumption is not ridiculous as the evidence is there.

The making of a complaint does not make it either a true or b substantiated.

That particular figure is evidence only of the number of complaints against Thames Valley Police recorded by the IPCC. And only in one year. It does not specify how many were substantiated or what categories (I.e corruption, excessive force, incivility etc) and is not sufficient data to provide any evidence in support of, well, anything.

With Thatcher simple fact is that she did some good, she did some bad. But she did SOMETHING!
She was a leader and a politician without peer in the day. If not, why the heck does she stoke up so much debate 23 years after being forced from office.

I don't think there is much difference, the ethos and attitude is national.

Your assumption is ridiculous and your "evidence" more than dubious.

If it is just as has been reported, that the officer fell over a kerb, then yes I feel she is just making herself look stupid.

As with anything reported in the press, I suspect that there may be more to it. Just call me cynical...

As to the Chief? Don't really see that it's much of their business as its an action by he individual to the location and not involving the police force in question.

And here we are again.

Whose fault is it?
The police or the driver who deliberately made a choice not to stop for the police and, one would assume then drove like a loon.

Discuss.

GMR the existence of the CCTV cameras would have been pretty common knowledge, both with the police and government officials given its location.

To think that no one had even considered to check it prior to this last week, when it was bizarrely enough released (apparently from an official source) to a news company rather than to the police is, i would suggest naive in the extreme.

I personally think there is a lot more to this and how it has been structured than has been reported, or even suggested as yet.

See how much mileage the government get out of this at the point when they are trying to reform the police service...

I just replied on another thread about children being finger printed. Under Blair we have become the most watched country. So I think it is a bit much when we have complaints when people start watching people in authority. As GMR has said we should be watching and observing more. We pay out taxes. That is the wages for the police, Traffic wardens and the politicians. We have had police abuse of powers, politicians taking more than they should. If people in authority are honest then us observing them will not be a worry.

Concerning interpretations of how sentences are worded. As has been suggested. This is more to do with mischief making and causing trouble. I never read the main article in a bad light. But then my mind does not work like some.

You could turn that around to reflect on society generally, couldn't you?

I can recall the birth of the fourth channel.

May be using rose tinted specs but I'm sure there was more that was interesting on back then..!
Or maybe my tastes were less...eclectic.

In the absence of anyone else offering the service, I welcome it.

Funny how so many talk but so little action...
