Can anyone get this site to work.

What do you think about the ability to search for information on crime and anti-social behaviour by entering a street name or postcode?

Should make interesting reading (or maybe not) when the thing actually works! sad.gif

Do we really need this information and, if so. what would we use it for?

Apparently, it is to empower the person to understand the type of reported crime and to see what the police are doing about it.

Hmmmm..... Interesting.

The police could be leaving themselves wide open there then?

I suspect that the server has crashed because of the number of hits its receiving (people are very nosey). What will people use it for? If you are moving house from outside of an area you might want to check out the neighberhood before commiting to buying a new property. If you already live in the area you are going to already know the roads / streets affected by crime. When you can get logged on you know that The Oaks, St Georges Avenue, Pound Street and the Nightingales are going to be 'hot spots'. If you did not live in Newbury but were moving from say Yorkshire you might not know this and you will be able to check this out prior to buying.

There must be more to it than just a house moving aid?

What if, after viewing this site, you come to the conclusion that the police are not doing enough about tackling crime in your area.
Can you do anything about it?

As you say, maybe just another internet toy that satisfies people's "nosey" instinct.

It will be interesting to see, when the site finally works, if the assumptions you made in post 6 are correct.
Maybe not.
Do they burgle their own kind or go for rich pickings elsewhere?
ASBO's? That may be in the areas you say.

You may look up St Georges Avenue, if you live there and see that crime is not being reported. It might therefore spur on some people to pick up the phone and help make the police aware.

It looks like the main hotbed of crime in my local area is the old peoples' development on the old hospital site. ohmy.gif

Nah, they all get sherry'd up on pension day, then hang around the corners with their shawls hiding their identity.
