QUOTE (spartacus @ Sep 16 2015, 12:44 PM) The current fuss over singing the national anthem does make you wonder about our national press and their priorities as NEWSpapers. "ooh look, he's wearing a tie!... ahh but the top button's undone..." Indeed. Interesting that his no-singing is of so much importance. Imagine the outcry if he's taken a smiling selfie at the funeral of say, Nelson Mandela.. .

QUOTE (Biker1 @ Sep 15 2015, 06:07 AM) Ruwan, it's Ruwan!! You're thinking of Mr. Bean. Nope, I was thinking of Morrison. (Showing me age) |

QUOTE (The Optimist @ Sep 12 2014, 12:41 AM) Any change of heart after seeing Gazzadp's post? None whatsoever. He still hasn't posted ANY messages from Facebook H.Q. (which, if you read my post was what I challenged him to produce). I think I'd be inclined to contact Disney and ask if Steve Nash was acting on their orders. (at the very least you might get a 'showaround' on the set by way of an apology). |

QUOTE (motormad @ May 1 2014, 12:14 PM) If you have an accusation to make and you can back it up, I would love to hear you state your point. I don't think he / she has to. You said yourself that you were only interested in UKIP because you wanted out of Europe. You also said yourself that you weren't racist. You then, having said that, felt the need to bring to people's attention the selling of Hal Al meat in a few Subway branches. Nothing to do with your stated reason for supporting UKIP is it? Nothing to do with Farage standing in Newbury (the original post) is it? No. You, as a 'non-racist' just felt you had to bring it up for apparently absolutely no reason at all. (You even called it a 'ban') Maybe it just kinda accidentally slipped out? I think we've seen enough here for many of us to make our own judgements about some of your views. Thank you. |

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Apr 30 2014, 11:11 AM) Well hitherto the EU has had a politcal free ride; it is about time it came under pressure to reform and that is how I see the value in parites like UKIP. UKIP has the worst voting and attendance record of ANY party in the European Parliament. Difficult to see how that's going to help change Europe politically, and didn't they just vote against a Ivory Trade clampdown? As for the Bye-Election, well at the last Election Farage was beaten by a man dressed as a dolphin, perhaps that's why he seems to have bottled this opportunity. |

QUOTE (Simon Kirby @ Apr 23 2014, 10:07 PM) The new glass bit looks good to me, but the clutter and tat in the street scene really detract - I'm not talking about the temporary barriers, I'm talking about the bollards, signs, and posts So the signs CAN be seen then? Those people who ran over / into the bollards were often to claim they "never saw them". The new 'bit' is not exactly sympathetic to it's surroundings, rather than joining the existing buildings together, it actually looks more like it's holding them apart. We all know that good architecture is when 'form follows function', sadly this just looks like a glorified car show-room. It's lazy, unimaginative, and pedestrian. I'm sure there are some who will like it, but then there are those who buy 'One Direction' C.D's, that doesn't make 'One Direction' good musicians though does it ? This is just cheap tat. Having an almost completely glass wall means you don't have to design anything to go there does it? It is sadly indicative of the decline in architectural thought processes and understanding that is beginning to blight just about everywhere in our town centers. Which individual came up with this? They should be named. Thus people who like it can write and show support and those who think this is not a good addition to the architectural heritage of Newbury can throw buns at them in supermarkets. |
