Although it was about something outside Newbury, I've just reported a potential chemical spill from a land drain into the sea, via the Environment Agency 24 hour Hotline. Thought I was going to get the usual disinterested 'tell me if you must' response. Not a bit, couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Gives me a bit of confidence that the enthusiasm will turn into action. So, see anything locally, there is someone who will take it seriously - 0800 807060

Enthusiasm is great, have they dealt with the issue though?

Don't know, I'll find out when I go back next week and will post the result.

Just to close this off, they traced the source and so know what caused the problem. Not quite sure exactly how they did it but no traces any more, in public sight at least. . Was an industrial solvent apparently and they are 'taking action' against who they believe was perpetrator.
