It appears this has been a planned attack, as opposed to a nutcase going off on one..

As an American, I believe it is a fundamental right to "bear arms". I do believe that certain restrictions and requirements be placed on gun ownership.

1. No further sales of automatic weapons, or weapons that can shoot more than 6 rounds before having to be reloaded.
2. Ownership to be limited to 3 weapons, none automatic, and none that can shoot more than 6 rounds before having to be reloaded.
3. If you have an automatic weapon, you need to hold a licence costing 1000 dollars to be renewed on an annual basis. This is required of EACH automatic weapon you own. This is to be paid to the local law enforcement agency. You will also be required annually to sit a safety class taught by your local law enforcement agency. If you fail the course, or deemed to be not "qualified" to own an automatic weapon, then all of your weapons will be confiscated.
4. All weapons will be licensed on an annual basis.
5. All weapons will be confiscated if any one weapons is unlicensed.

I grew up with weapons in the house, as my Dad liked to hunt and skeet/trap shoot. I spent 11 years in t he USAF, and was trained in the M16, .38 and grenade launcher. I know that firearms can be fun, if used responsibly.

Sadly, you only hear of those whose weapons are not used responsibly.. Why penalize the 99 percent of those who you will never hear about.

I think the first step must be to curb the power and influence of the NRA, until that happens no meaningful progress can be made.

The problem I see with gun ownership, isn't the atrocities, but the low level events like accidents and arguments. Far more people die from those events than from a loon with an M16.

I can't vouch for its veracity but this is an interesting read: http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2013/0...yths-fact-check

In the states there have been to date this year alone 353 mass shootings. A mass shooting is where four or more people are shot in a single incident. That's more than one a day! It's just not newsworthy anymore. That, is a lot of loons! ohmy.gif

If true, this is interesting:

Myth #4: More good guys with guns can stop rampaging bad guys.

Fact-check:
Mass shootings stopped by armed civilians in the past 30 years: 0
• Chances that a shooting at an ER involves guns taken from guards: 1 in 5

Again, this myth is perpetuated by the NRA as a response to calls from the gun control lobby following, (i think) Sandy Hook.

American's mentality is still in the Wild West. Until that can be calmed and eventually eradicated then such shootings are part and parcel of America's life and history.
