Apparently "the council" has decided against holding an event on the 5th/6th of June for the 75th anniversary of the invasion of Europe. One of the most iconic photos of WWII was taken at RAF GC just before the airborne loaded into their planes and parachuted behind the German lines.

This is just shocking...

If it is that they have decided not to spend money on it, then great, there are far more important things that need funding right now. If it is that they are against an even in general, well they don't really get to make that decision. but they can be difficult about it.

But they can spend close to £1m on the control tower? Really?

Yes, our history and the history of the base can be ignored. Imagine if that invasion would of failed...

Sorry, but a plaque commemorating the event and some sort of "party" would be appropriate.

Where do you get your million from? Since the renovation and opening, it has been visited by many thousands of people. My first time there and a few times since, there have been American families, either with or without previous servicemen. It has to be applauded. BTW, I offered volunteer services to support it. I will always support it. Why so neg? Life is not always about money.

"The loan will be paid back over the next 17 years (£6,700 a year) and will take the total spend on the project to £895,229. " And if they say £895,225, you can bet it actually cost just a bit more. For a vanity project.

Socialist Worker’s Party. I’ve no political affiliation. It seems to me that to attend a Tommy Robinson rally you have to be a full on racist and Islamophobe.

A vanity project wouldnt generate income and then pay for itself.

Where is the D-Day/Eishenhower memorial in Newbury/RAF GC?

There isn't one.

A one million pounds coffee shop is going to take a **** of a long time to make any money, let alone pay back the loan let alone actually pay for itself. No, it's a vanity project.

Yes we should have some sort of ceremony for the boys that lost their lives so that Europe could be saved from the tyranny of the Nazi's megalomaniac ambition. We can find money for dance groups to celebrate a bunch of unwashed loons living off social security while they camp outside the gates.

If you are going to make your way in the world of successful insults, at least make sure you know the difference between EDF and EDL.

I've never supported BNP (Are they still a thing? and I understand the very beginnings of the EDL, I trust you do too?

Oh yeah, "Put BS here" and click send.
