QUOTE (Darren @ Aug 26 2010, 12:20 PM) but at what cost to the taxpayer?
Surely they should be curbing frivilous expenditure at the moment.
"Sorry, you can't have a meals on wheels today, but here's a picture of the clock tower bathed in new LED lights to feast your eyes on". It's probably very cheap to do this and it would brighten up a shabby part of the street. A good idea I think.

Newbury Town Council spent lots of taxpayers money fitting solar panels on the town hall roof. Where to start? It's a real shame the Con-Lib town council hasn't grasped the 'Big Society' olive branch and thought to ask the public what ideas we have to enhance this part of town, instead of again embracing a WBC tarmac inspector's thoughts.

QUOTE (Bloggo @ Aug 26 2010, 01:43 PM) In Northbrook street? Not without a crash helmet. If Northbrook street is eventually to be pedestrianised, we will not need crash helmets, and if all the street lights are going to be switched off at night, what is the point of adding these lights when they are only going to be switched off anyway? Besides once it is pedestrained, no one will see it except those too drunk to notice.

"Sorry, you can't have a meals on wheels today, but here's a picture of the clock tower bathed in new LED lights to feast your eyes on". There could be two reasons for this. One they've got money to burn or two they want to enhance Newbury. If they want to enhance Newbury then they should take the drunks and those that give Newbury a bad name off our streets. All they are doing at the moment is wallpapering over the cracks.

Why do people have to take posts literally? I understand his gist. On other forums I've visited people had the brains to understand without requesting the writer should be precise and pedantic. maybe it is something in the air in Newbury; it stops one from thinking for themselves; reading between the lines. Idiot boards required on here.

If Newbury Town Council DID run the Meals on Wheels service it'd be a sight better-run than it is under West Berks (who run it at the moment)!
