We could start another discussion about the appropriateness of food-eating contests.

We could indeed. Do you remember when The Castle at Donnington was renamed 'The Pig in Hiding' and customers were invited to 'Come in and pig out' on huge portions?

It was irresponsible to encourage people to overeat then, and it is irresponsible now. The management of The Starting Gate should be ashamed of themselves. Would they take responsibility if someone had a heart attack trying to consume one of these meals?

Not to mention the gluttony.

Do you not encourage people to drink beer?

Presumably he does. In moderation. Nothing wrong with that. But "moderation" is not what is being discussed here.

That would depend on how mucH you normally eat. I just hate all the high horsiness of people who indulge in stupid activities attacking others for doing the same.

You can guarantee no one force-feeds themselves every day to win a T Shirt. And if I indulge in stupid activities, it wouldn't make it right, nor would it invalidate my or other's opinions on eating contests.
