QUOTE (newres @ Feb 27 2019, 05:24 PM) You said remainers were thick as mince. The data says it’s the Leavers that are less intelligent. Problem with that is that according to the 'data' all right wingers are thick, which must mean all leftys aren't, and yet an awful lot of leavers are left wingers and a lot of remainers are right wingers. So, does the 'data' say all right wingers are thick apart from the ones who voted remain and conversely are the leftys less thick, even the ones that voted leave? Gets a bit complicated when you believe every bit of 'data' that suits your argument.

The whole remain/leave debacle is akin to the hunting debate some 20 years ago when 10% of the population was vehemently opposed as was a similar percentage for; the remaining 80% had "better" things to worry about yet were carried along with the circus because to appear disinterested runs the risk of being labeled obtuse. Personally I voted leave but had the vote gone the other way I would have got on quite happily with my life in the knowledge that whenever a glitch to my status quo arrose I could always blame the germans. Looks as though that simple pleasure may be here for sometime yet.

QUOTE (newres @ Feb 27 2019, 12:06 PM) The EU is the opposite of tribalism.Tribalism is nationalism. So the expensive institutionalised trek between Brussels and Strasbourg isn't the result of tribalisim?

QUOTE (je suis Charlie @ Feb 27 2019, 02:04 PM) In theory, however does everyone who voted remain agree with contributions to the EU armed forces, or the EU deciding tax burdens for individuals or the EU allocating immigrants to individual nations, or are happy at the insane levels of corruption at top levels? Not to mention the overturning of UK court decisions by the EU? I actually heard one interview where the young lady wailed that it was wrong 'cos I like Europe, now I won't be able to go there' which pretty much summed up for me the level of understanding of the situation. 🤔 Knowing, and agreeing, are two very different things.

QUOTE (TallDarkAndHandsome @ Feb 27 2019, 02:59 PM) Thick as mince the majority of remainers. Ask any of them what the main treaties of the EU are and what they mean. Most won't be able to name one. But they want to be part of a Union they have no understanding of. Cos it's Europe. Innit. That's not a fair statement, there are many remainers who are far more intelligent, more worldly or beter informed than many of us. Most Brexiteers probably couldn't tell you all that much about treaties either. I am still waiting for any Brexiteer to tell me a tangible and real benefit to leaving the EU.

QUOTE (newres @ Mar 1 2019, 05:44 PM) So.... second referendum? What do we think. A vote on the deal looks pretty likely to me. Pandoras box is open. Why not? Been a long time since the Roundheads v Cavaliers. Fight at Donington Castle? 😂

QUOTE (je suis Charlie @ Mar 1 2019, 07:27 PM) Two year ext to article 50, another vote on the deal although I'm unsure as to precisely what the question will be, followed swiftly by a humble, grovelling appeal to Brussels to forget what naughty rebellious people the British are.
Pretty much what if said all along. TM can say "I've tried", JC can say "power rests in the hands of the proletariat" and VC can just sit there looking like a fat, balding smug bloke. I think the most important thing about another vote is to reduce the voting age to 2 and ban anyone over 60 from voting. Also the options should be: 1. Remain 2. Remain and join the Euro 3. Remain, join the Euro, and abolish the HOC and HOL. Of those 3 I would vote for option 3. And I'm serious.

Anyway, I’ll be glad when it’s all over so I can hen back to having only a vague interest in politics again (although I was interested in my 20s and early 30s) because whoever is in power makes very little difference to me me. Brexit was different as it was going to have a massive impact on the country economically and needs to be stopped.

Why bother with the pretence of sovereignty. Also most brexiteers will never vote again so it's best to hand all power to Juncker and co.

There will never be an EU state even if there’s further integration and as it stands we could veto or opt out like Schengen or the Euro. You’re actually being hysterical.

QUOTE (TallDarkAndHandsome @ Mar 2 2019, 07:37 AM) "There will never be an EU state" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Of course not, it will be called "The Greater German Republic" and it's boundary will run from Ballycroy to the Bosphorus. On a positive we shall have replaced the Windsors with family Merkel, the pound with the euro and we will all be encouraged to take our summer holidays in Poland. Meanwhile China continues to view the world as something to be exploited to extinction and the yanks will continue to elect p****s like Trump. Oh isn't it great being a member of the human race in the 21st century.
