I'm fed up with supermarket bread. Are there any independent bakers in Newbury?

Supermarkets have a wide variety of different breads by different companies. Have you tried them all? Some are baked on site.

Moot ponit, they only buy in ready made chilled dough shapes which they then heat up until the timer goes 'ping'. That's not really 'baking' in it's true sense is it? The supermarkets call it 'cooked off'.

Hethertons or the market Thursday and Saturday. If you want really good bread gett a bread maker. Reasonable price now, put it all in the machine before you go to bed, set the timer and wake up to really fresh bread.

There are two sorts of bread; nice and/ or horrible.

I concur with both statements. Hetherton do the best bakers' bread I have ever tasted, and the stall in the market has a wonderful and imaginative range. Hetherton's lardy cake is to die for.

We now have a bread-making machine and get excellent bread, using Wessex Mill flour.
