QUOTE (GMR @ Nov 23 2010, 10:39 PM) Are you suggesting that this council didn’t learning anything from the last snow catastrophe we had? I have total faith in our council, strengthened by User23 and Billy being on here; they’ve given me total faith in our council. Unfortunately the council has bought enough rock salt for 5 normal winters, which, come april, when it is all still lying there will give RG, GMR et all ammo enough to say that the council paniced and overspent on rocksalt.

Yes, but as we all know, there are some people that just need to complain about the council, regardless.

QUOTE (Richard Garvie @ Nov 24 2010, 08:07 AM) It's just I've read conflicting reports about the amout of salt bought. If we have five times as much, excellent. But I doubt we would have bought that much? Why would anyone possible complain about having enough salt? I didn't say there would be complaints about enough. I said there would be complaints about too much.

QUOTE (Richard Garvie @ Nov 24 2010, 08:07 AM) Why would anyone possible complain about having enough salt? Ah... Too LITTLE and there will be complaints. But if it's too MUCH then there will also be complaints.. If we return to more normal recent trends of mild winters, then there will be complaints that too much was spent on buying in 3-5 years worth of salt, possibly at the wrong price.. And that will be only one part of the complaint, as that stockpile will have to be maintained for however many years it's in storage until it's depleted. Providing a large dry storage facility to accommodate a few thousand tonnes of the stuff costs money and will soon no doubt be seen by some as an unnecessary expense brought about by Council incompetents panic buying...

But I doubt we would have bought that much? Why would anyone possible complain about having enough salt? Salt stocks are fine - if they are kept in the dry. If (as I suspect) we have mountains of salt slowly disappearing in the rain we might be better off buying it later. It is also possible to have too much. If we have five times as much as we had last year and a warmer winter we might see more of it dissolved by rain than spread on the roads.
