It has often been said that we do not so much require more police as less criminals ,but one can understand the mindset of a less than scrupulous individual who sees the chance of making a dishonest buck when he/she knows that the boys in blue are unlikely to appear anytime soon . Maybe we should go back to private vigilante groups ? Certainly they would be more cost effective and probably more reassuring to the local populace .
