Whilst it's good to see the hoax callers being pursued it does beg the question as to why the police thought it necessary to send a police car to a fire call, presumably on blues & two's?

Surely this is not standard procedure sad.gif

And do not all police drivers have some advanced training including dealing
with skids; it seems only luck that pedestrians/other drivers were not injured.

Depends on what the call to RBFRS was about. The story doesn't say so no way to know.

As for the second point, depends on what level they are trained to. Could be Basic, Intermediate or Advanced. Both Intermediate and Advanced receive extended training. Basic only need to pass an assessment but are normally prohibited from driving on Twos and Blues. Again, the story doesn't give the details.

Great to see that the police get your support Gel.

Here they are going into another unknown situation to help people, they get criticised due to something that hasn't yet been fully investigated. For all we know, which is very little, that the car could of suffered a mechanical fault, or the car could of hydroplaned due to the amount of rain water coming down that stretch of road.

I am sure that the families of the police personel involved in the incident are happy that there loved one is still alive while going out to assist someone in need.

Suggest you enquire of TVP the nature of the call. What was the report? Was the car on Blues & 2s?

No, but more Police drivers do than members of the general public - a day at Castle Coombe would do many the world of good

Looking at the photos and video, it might appear that we have a situation of a police car traveling at high speed--say the 60 mph speed limit--with possibly a police driver not familiar that this section of road collects water ( and freezes over some times in the winter also causing accidents) and the moment the front wheels hit the water, they might have aquaplaned, and if this might have been the case, then with the immediate loss of steering and braking, there wasn't a lot the police driver could now do.

Didn't think it'd be long before we got the smart reply; never is in this forum. Those words you highlighted were indeed deliberately chosen as a tentative suggestion as to what might have happened, for example.

The video?--the link is on the news story page.

Not a 'smart' reply, by intent anyway. However, a comment with so many broad parameters becomes meaningless: it ends up as 'looks like something happened'.
The video adds something to the possibilities, but nothing to the certainties.
In time, the story will be known. It may not become public......
