On Aldi sketch in paper the traffic flow is a continental one!

Perhaps someone flipped image in error.

No they know something we don't. European road traffic harmonisation regulations obliging us to drive on the right after 'change over month'. so phased in, by road type; Motorways, A roads, then the rest. Daft if you ask me, ought to be by vehicle type, HGV, light commercial then everything else.

I agree with your plan OTE. But you seem to have left out at what stage motorcycles would be scheduled for change?? blink.gif
(PS, I think pedal cycles have already changed! wink.gif )

We could use the opportunity to move motorbikes to the cycle lanes. To avoid confusion, these would be lanes for all two wheelers only. The electric Shopping Trolleys could then take their rightful place on the road.

Albrecht Discount is of course a German company, so it may well be that the artist they used didn't put two and two together.

I think you are being a bit pedantic here. The point of the drawing is how it will look and not the traffic flow. Anyway I am pleased that Aldi's is opening. Like Lidl's they have some good staff and cheap. Another shop competition for this area. And of course people will be employed. This can only be good news.

Why has no one mentioned there appears to be a ghost in the middle of the road, bottom right?

He might be a ghost because the traffic was going the wrong way and he was hit. Maybe there is a moral tale here subliminally added?

There also seems to be 3 trees that have a ghost quality about them. At least compared to the 2 other trees on the left. I can also see a large oblong shadow on the road nearest to us.

You could be right, or perhaps it's something to do with Halloween?

If that is the case then the ghost will be more productive on Wednesday. wink.gif

Seems a fair idea.
After all bicycles don't use cycle lanes do they? They use the pavements.
I know, special motorbike lanes all over the country!! wink.gif biggrin.gif

They already have them on the M3 - the area between the traffic on Lanes 2 and 3........

Why not use the inside lane?. It gets very lonely sometimes.

Some cycle ways are part pavements. What we need is something separate; like cycle lanes that are only for bikes.

Hi, I am looking forward to seeing the new Aldi store open. I've used their store in other areas and they have had some good bargains. The layout looks impressive.

Seems a bit harsh.
Tesco's also employ a lot of locals, as do Boots, Vodafone, M&S, Onestop(Tesco's owned), and no doubt a few other multi outlet companies.

Perhaps you should write to them and ask if they'd open a shop in Newbury.

Not harsh just saying abit more diversity and add abit more competion to the big 2 and also would not that add to further employment ??

Yes, I agree more employment regardless of who opens up a supermarket.

But there would be diversity, considering there are no other Aldis in town. Would that be a personal preference?

Mine would be Tesco's, but then I'm biased because my wife works for them and gets a 10% discount.

Joking aside, I would like to see a market every day of the week. Not all the same stallholders would be there every day. It would give them more opportunity if they were unable to acquire a plot each day of the week and would also generate more income for the town. Simples

I once wrote to Poundland a few years back suggesting a suitable site in Oxford city centre. I got a polite reply and they didn't move into the suggested site but it looks like they do have one now.

Said x2lls.

I thought the original idea of market towns was to coincide the market with livestock trading and Cornhall dealings.
And a goodly quantity of ale.So you would have a market in each town in the area, Abingdon, Swindon, Marlborough. And the traders would move around, on a daily basis. "Dad is it Wednesday?" "Yes son" "Oh so this is Basingstoke."
