That's exactly right and therein lies the answer. We may think we are a democracy but as a couple of politicians have said we are an elected dictatorship. The elect of the ruling party, if they are wise, must have a shared vision as to how to implement their will even if its contrary to the apparent will of the masses. Simply put yourself in the shoes of one of those people, knowing what you know of the mechanics of politics and public moods, what's the easiest, least divisive, and cheapest way ahead. A starter for ten; you have time.

We're a parliamentary democracy. We elect people to make big decisions for us because we don't have the time or the education to make properly informed decisions ourselves.

Perhaps they want an "Independant Republic of West Berkshire" and remain a EU member on the basis that “On June 23 the people of West Berkshire voted to remain in the EU while the country as a whole voted to leave".

I voted leave but was fully prepared for the result on the morning of the 24th to be to remain, to have shrugged my shoulders and thought "if that what the country wants".
Contrary to that, this takes bad losing to a different level!!

Being a bad loser would require agreeing to the game being played and based on an ability to make amends. If one believes in something strong enough then I see nothing wrong in making their opinions known.

Fair enough good point AC. Let them get on with it.
However, the exit result was that of a democratic vote that, as I have said earlier, was always going to cause consternation with a large proportion of the people due to the close split.
By doing this they can change nothing and leave themselves open to ridicule (look at some of the comments here and on the NWN page) by not accepting a close but decisive decision of the people.
There is not going to be another referendum so perhaps those on the remain side should now be exibiting a more positive message now that the decision has been made.
