In the absence of anyone else posting their take on this sceptred Ilse's weekend celebrations ,I would like to express my heart felt admiration for the endless work that went on in order to present a pageantry that only Britain could achieve with such precision.
From the Thames spectacle to the village street party everyone has done their bit to leave a legacy for the history books.
What I really found refreshing was the lack of sycophantic grovelling that too often accompanies Royal shindigs which can only have added to the republican element's already water drenched protest.
On a personal level my overriding memory will be of the choir that managed to perform Elgar's pomp and circumstance no.1 in conditions best described as antediluvian .OBE's to one and all Ma'am. wink.gif

We had a good day on Saturdy. In a garden square.
Local flower shops decked the tables, and
a restaurant provided a huge spread of meze.

The glory of the evening was deciding/deciphering the bunting.
Some of it did seem personal.
There was a fair amount of pink polka dot bits......

A good day enjoyed by all, apart (it is eported) by Peter Tatchel) who comlained there were not enough black or asian members of the Windor Family. Lost the plot I think. Happy Jubilee.

I am enjoying the Mall shindig. Shame the Pogues didn't make it.
I had never seen Sir Cliff perform, either too young or too old.
The Old Tom will be belting out. Not a bad show really.

I quite like Peter Tatchell, but every-so-often, I get bored and fed-up with the liberal and democratic holier-than-though rhetoric.

I think the production is rather dull. I do like the Gary Barlow song on now though.

I think everyone who is British should feel proud of it's Queen, Royal Family and the celebrations held around the UK. I thought the floatilla down the Thames was amazing.

I find it very sad that Newbury/Thatcham did not do more, to include more flags, etc around the town.

BTW - I am not British, and the only celebration I have seen that could be remotely equal is the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independance.

I drove through town last night expecting there to be something, but no, it was dead as a doornail. I agree that we should all feel proud, and there has only been a small handfull of nay sayers.

Walked through town this morning. Apart from the market square there is a line of flags for one fifith of one of the paths in the park. What a said sight in Royal Berkshire.

But who is to pay for decorating the town? There is clearly no money in NTC or the Partnership.....

A few of the pubs have Union Flags outside them, I've not seen many on shops or other businesses though.

I imagine the olympic torch relay will be a far bigger event for Newbury.

If we had got rid of the Mayor that would have saved a few bob for decorations. Still with this council still refusing to act like a proper council instead of a third world tyranny then it is no wonder that people do not feel like celebrating too much even though it is a very special occasion? rolleyes.gif

Sorry On The Edge. Too old for crowds.I can smile and wave but not as much as Her Majesty.
Andy Capp, I thought the whole watching process was fine. From a Victorian chesterfield good fun
Annie Lennox was odd. Robbie was fine, Stevie was a gentle moment.
I did have a bottle of bolly in the friddddddge, so I missed Sir Elton.
Sir Paul was good .

I remember ,albeit with a hint of envy, a young Prince of Wales taking a shine to a prominent member of The 3 Degrees pop group .
Future problems solved.

And locked in the 'special relationship' for years to come. Hint of envy? Suspect like me it was outright jealousy!
