NWN TV

Who watches local news on TV? Usually you have to sit through half an hour of ‘local’ news that has nothing at all to do with where you actually live in the hope they mention a snippet of your area. Yes, I know... it is not worth it. However, over the last couple of week I’ve been watching the NWN local news channel on their web site that actually covers our area. The newscasters are their journalists who actually do a very good job. I have just one criticism though; it is only 2 minutes and about 30 seconds long... a bity it is not longer. Then again Newbury is probably so boring that nothing really happens anyway. At least their news is better than BBC South or Meridian local news.

Yes, bear in mind it is West Berkshire news, not just Newbury.

I stand corrected. However, worth watching.

BBC South usually only features stories that have the English Channel in the background. Meridian is a joke since they closed the local studios - Thames Valley Today was actually quite watchable.

I've watched the NWN news videos a few times - they are pretty good and deserve support.

Would this be for people too lazy to just read the articles on the main website? wink.gif

It is the same amount of effort; sitting and reading, or sitting and listening.

Actually a bit more than West Berkshire - the NWN covers a fair bit of north Hampshire news as well.

You would think they could get one of the Sky Sports News Girls to read the local news though. I would tune in every day then! laugh.gif laugh.gif

You're right, South Today only seems to cover the South Coast. The furthest North they'll venture most of the time is Winchester. Thames Valley Today was much better but Michael Grade decided to get rid of that, if I'm not mistaken.

Going by the comments on this post it is obvious that NWN news channel is popular; maybe they should think of extending it?

I also like their free and easy reporters who seem more human than what you get from any of the main channels or even sky. They - the main national and international broadcasters - look like they've been assimilated by the Borg and regurgitated up and thrown back out.
