Dunno, I've had him on Ignore for ages now ever since he decided to continue every thread with his "..no, YOU are" style of debating.

Nobody left it unlocked, I was given the key a few years ago because they (they being the psychiatric nurses) thought I was medicating ok (personally I question their logic, but... hey!!!!! who am I to argue with the nut-wardens?). Let us just be grateful.......

PS things must be slow on here to dedicate a thread to me..... but i do love you and i will reciprocate one day... with something that will tickle your mysterons!!!!!! tongue.gif wink.gif

As Chuck Berry said in the same name song:

Swing low sweet chariot, come down easy
Taxi to the terminal zone;
Cut your engines, cool your wings,
And let me make it to the telephone.

When I first read the first thread I was taken back by ‘forum member bashing,’ or what seemed like it, but seeing as GMR is playing along with it I suppose it is ok. But I would not feel comfortable denigrating another member, if that was the original posters intentions. We are all entitled to our views, ways and differences. Without it we would be a sadder nation.

I think he was referring to GMR's blitz on the forum. In the over 70s drivers thread he's replied to himself four times.

If you were faithfully to the opinion emboldened in the quote, you shouldn't have made this point! wink.gif

As for GMR, yes it was tongue in cheek, hence the emoticon at the end of the sentence. Having said that, even though I wouldn't dream of saying that GMR shouldn't post here, in the way he does, I think half of his posts are drivel and he can quite frankly be an unfunny nuisance. No-doubt many will think the same about me, but like GMR, it seems, I couldn't give a flying perp what people think about my (sometimes lack of) manners!

My default is to have a sober adult conversation about topics I like, but should someone start to take liberties with what I post, then I can be as childish or rude as the best of them.

And you are saying this is not allowed? Are you a forum mod? What business is it of us how other members reply on here? Providing they are not abusive and attack others. This smacks of Big Brother.

By the way. Did I not read that you had put GMR on ‘ignore’? So how would you know if you can not read his posts? And while I am on the matter, is it not childish putting people on ‘ignore’? I thought we were all grown up and adultish on here. Maybe not in all cases going by your post.

I have read some of your posts Mr User23. What did it say in the Bible when a group of people were throwing stones at a prostitute and Jesus said 'those without no sin,' or whatever? You have a habit of winding people up on here so I thought you would know better.

I have read some of GMR’s posts and he comes over as very intelligent and knowledgeable, however, I do agree with you that he also clowns around a lot. But then so do you. So the pot, kettle and black spring to mind. But giving you credit you do acknowledge your own faults. I suppose clowns have to do that otherwise they would just creep away and hide in a corner and die gracefully.

I must also say I do like your posts when you take the micky out of each other. Are you two friends in real life?

I disagree. All forums must have an element of differences. So long as those differences are not abusive or attack another member then differences are healthy. One person shouldn't dictate how other members should perform; other than what I said above; i.e. respect each other.

I have quietly crept back in.

I agree with what GMR said. We should not tell another member how to write nor should we expect uniformity. The only thing we have a right to expect is politeness and showing respect to each other. If we start going down the road of telling other members how to write and follow a certain system we are not that far from Orwell’s Big Brother. Then it will be the few dictating to the many.

A few points.

HeatherW; are you not, within your text, 'advising' how people should behave and post?

GMR can be disrespectful, but in his own way. Periodically I am narked-off at some of his insensitivity shown on threads on rather sombre topics, be it paedophilia or the perishing of a local woman. This often is in the form of his 'jokes'. For me, this is far more disrespectful than anything I've done, including calling people idiots.

I'd feel a lot more respectful of GMR, if he were to show some respect himself on some threads occasionally. This includes frivolous and pointless posting. I thought he had 'grown-up' lately, but very recently he has returned with 'vengeance'. Having said all that of course, it might be that he is simply eccentric and doesn't know what he is doing; although I doubt it.

I am not telling anyone how they should post, but I reserve the right to express my displeasure if anyone does post something I think is crass.

I think you read too much into what I say. Other readers (or at least a lot of them) know exactly what i am saying and how I am saying it. If there is a problem then it is with the reader, not the writer. You should look at yourself before criticising others.... or me.

I am me and I shall continue being me. If you don't like it then don't answer me. Making barbed remarks shows one that you've got the problem.

I don't have a problem with any members on here. I accept differences and it takes all sorts for forums to tick over. The ones who don't like those differences should reevaluate themselves, not find flaws outside their own inadequacies.

I think you read too much into what I say. Other readers (or at least a lot of them) know exactly what i am saying and how I am saying it. If there is a problem then it is with the reader, not the writer. You should look at yourself before criticising others.... or me.

Why? I think you often post ignorant rubbish. So I will say so. I also think your sense of humour is often misplaced, sometimes crass, as well as child like. So I will say so. Whether anyone agrees with me or not is irrelevant to me.

What is interesting is the sort of people who do agree with you; people like user23, which says everything. Carry on my friend regardless, if it gives you some sort of consolation then you go for it. After all these forums are for all sorts of opinions, no matter how biased or twisted they are... everybody is welcome. And I would fight in your corner so that you can have the right to whatever you think or say.

One thing I have learnt about forums; never take them to heart otherwise you’ll start to sink into the quagmire of desperation and paranoia.

My motto and life's philosophy is the same as the song; ‘All ways look on the bright side of life’.

Some things in life are bad

They can really make you mad

Other things just make you swear and curse.

When you're chewing on life's gristle

Don't grumble, give a whistle

And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...

Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten

There's something you've forgotten

And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.

When you're feeling in the dumps

Don't be silly chumps

Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.....

Etc, etc, etc.

With love. wink.gif

Explain what irony is.

For you, as you have trouble working things out yourself, I've put it in full; thanks to Wikipedia. Don't thank me, just send me a cheque for a nominated charity.

QUOTE
[i][b]Irony (from the Ancient Greek εἰρωνεία eirōneía, meaning dissimulation or feigned ignorance)http://#cite_note-0 is a http:///wiki/Rhetorical_device, http:///wiki/Literary_technique, or situation in which there is a sharp incongruity or discordance that goes beyond the simple and evident meaning of words or actions. Very often this discordance is created as a means of communication (as in art or rhetoric), and even when it is not created directly, the act of drawing attention to such a discordance in reality may serve a communicative function of sharpening or highlighting certain features of reality.

Verbal and situational irony are often used for emphasis in the assertion of a truth. The ironic form of http:///wiki/Simile, used in http:///wiki/Sarcasm, and some forms of http:///wiki/Litotes emphasize one's meaning by the deliberate use of language which states the opposite of the truth — or drastically and obviously understates a factual connection.

In fictional dramatic irony, the author causes a character (acting as the author's mouthpiece) to speak or act in a way contrary to the truth. This technique highlights the literal facts by portraying a fictional person who is strikingly ignorant of them.

In certain kinds of situational or historical irony, a factual truth is highlighted by some person's complete ignorance of it or his belief in the opposite of it. However, this state of affairs does not occur by human design. In some religious contexts, such situations have been seen as the deliberate work of http:///wiki/Divine_Providence to emphasize facts and to taunt humans for not being aware of them — when they could easily have been enlightened (this is similar to human use of irony). Such ironies are often more evident, or more striking, when viewed retrospectively in the light of later developments which make the truth of past situations obvious to all.

Much irony involves commentary that heightens tension in the life situation of someone who needs to learn an easily known fact but somehow fails to learn it.

yes, we love a good debate. But the secret is, is don't take things personally or get upset. Yes, we should show respect and be polite.. but we also must remember that forums are frequented by all sorts of people, without them we would have narrow minded controlled forum. Differences brighten our times on forums... and we can learn from opposing views or different behaviours. In other words; enjoy!!! Life is too short to take things personally.

As for my Rumble in the Jungle with my friend Iommi.... if he didn't exist I'd have to invent him and probably pay him at the same time. I don't work for WBC. As for bullying, if you are going to insult people like Bill1, user23, or any one else for that matter, in the way that you do, then expect to get stick back. Playing the bully boy card is quite pathetic.

While I admit to be being childish and immature, it is quite outstandingly hypocritical of you to accuse anyone else of being so, especially as you seem to have captured the market of such behaviour.

First of all I do question when you say you don’t work for WBC. Secondly, I couple of days ago I got contacted by somebody who said that ‘certain people want you off this forum’. Then they used the word ‘WBC Mafia’. Somebody also mentioned awhile back that you work for WBC. Since then Sandy (who claims to work for WBC) has joined with Billy and you are always defending them (go figure!). People can draw their own conclusions (i.e. look at the evidence). But I can say you won’t bully me off this site. You don’t like the way I write, but since when are you lot the moral brigade on here? Isn’t there room for differences? So you don’t like the way I write, get over it! I’ve always defended differences. People like you want a society of drones (mirror images of themselves).

I can hardly be described as a user23 supporter. I have often had rows with him, and I have also been critical of him and the way he posts. It would also be stupid to call me a WBC supporter, I have been critical of them as well.

My declared interest is Bill1. He is a friend of mine.

I can only comment on the message I got and what I was told.

To me it was just a bit of fun on here, but when people take things too far then you start to question peoples objectives.

There should be room on here for all sorts. Not the few dictating how the majority should behave.

I know Bill is a friend of yours and every time he attacks somebody you join in.

I am not 'upset' but it does worry me when I am told that certain people wish to force another member off this forum because they don't like the way they write.

And I don't get abusive, I just respond to attacks.

Firstly, it is he that is usually under 'attack'. Almost daily you hurled abuse at him regards being a WBC drone, or what ever childish crap you come out with. You might notice, I have a tendency to stick-up for other people as well. Simon Kirkby when dannyboy, user23, and the rest try to have a pop, and I also have stuck up for user23 when people have tried to 'out' him. Indeed, I'd stick up for you if I though someone was out of line.

Secondly, it is rarely anyone else other than you that he falls out with.

I see Iommi and GMR are up to their old tricks. Hogging the forum. But I do have some sympathies with GMR’s comments.

I always thought that Iommi was a member of WBC, as well. His comments and attacks today reinforces my belief that that is still the case.

You might not see it as bullying Iommi, but that is how your posts come over, along with the other employees of WBC.

Anybody who comes out as representing (or working) for a company (in this case WBC) should always put their best foot forward. What I am seeing on this thread, and I am sure others have, is not a positive reflection on WBC’s image or even how forums should be viewed.

I do not really want to get involved in certain members childish behaviour on here but I suggest certain people grow up and stop, what seems to be bad behaviour (bullying) and their bringing WBC (their employers) into disrepute. I say this because a dear friend of mine works for WBC who is part of a team who tries to improve the imagine of WBC. I do not think he would be too happy to read what I have just read.

Now I said my piece I am going.

Believe what you like, I have no connection other than I know a couple of people that work there. I'm having a pop at GMR for his abuse of Bill1 and user23, nothing more. Many people complain about the council and in the main, I don't care, but GMR's recent systematic abuse of user23 and Bill1 is out of line. Especially from someone who regards himself so well principled.

When Bill1 posts on here, he posts as an individual, NOT as a representative of WBC.

Either way, there was someone on here who has previously indicated that they didn't work for WBC, but hinted that they DID work for a local council (was it Reading BC?) so were probably reciprocating some of the mildly vitriolic or ill-informed posts that were aimed at having a dig at 'Councils in general'...
